Story
The Reaper is a legend, more myth than man: the savior of worlds, the leader of the Rising, the breaker of chains. But the Reaper is also Darrow, born of the red soil of Mars: a husband, a father, a friend. The worlds once needed the Reaper. But now they need Darrow. Because after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope.

That was incredible

First let me say I'm glad TGR got to narrate the whole thing. Some of the voice acts in 4 & 5 were rough.
Past that, this book evoked so many emotions in me. What an absolute masterpiece. I'm anxiously awaiting the final book!

Great story, even worse narration than the last.
Reviewed: 06-20-23
For some reason half the narrators changed, and they did NOT change for the better. Lysander's voice was tough to get through this book, Lyria wasn't much better. Why not keep the same voices from book 4? You have the money. More whispering that forces you to raise volume then lower it when they raise their voices again. This series is huge, you can afford proper volume control and editing. Performance got an extra star because Tim Gerard Reynolds is amazing.
side note, why do we suddenly pronounce Cassius' name differently after 5 books? That was annoying.
Story was great, very dark indeed.

Great story, turn up the whispering.
Reviewed: 05-23-23
It was a great book, not the biggest fan of a couple of the narrators, but I guess you can't always have TGR carry everything. My biggest complaint is the inability to hear characters at times. I get whispering for effect, but balance the audio so people can still hear. Having to adjust my volume throughout a chapter to adapt is not ideal.

Great book. Concerned with series length
Reviewed: 02-03-23
As usual I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love the characters, the world(s), the magic system, etc. Just hoping Robertson doesn't try and stretch this story too long to the point of stagnation. We have at least one or two books more after this, kind of hoping we reach a nice end after this arc. Wouldn't be mad at a sequel series set in the same universe if it lines up that way.

I don't get the hate
Reviewed: 01-14-23
This was super on par for Manning's style of finishing up a series. I imagine this isn't the end of our experiences with these characters, similar to how he did Mageborn, and I'm looking forward to his future works! Don't listen to the hate, this is a good read.
There was a short bit where you could hear Windows sounds and for some reason TGR started pronouncing Selene's name wrong, but it all fixed itself quickly enough.
