Story
Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely travelling further than the pantry of his hobbit-hole in Bag End. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard, Gandalf, and a company of 13 dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day, to whisk him away on a journey "there and back again". They have a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon.

Wonderful memories

If you’re reading this, you must know already the majesty of Tolkien. Hearing Andy Serkis narrate it all is just a new and incredible experience. I recommend not listening at an increased pace, but let it all cover you like a refreshing waterfall.

Once again, having watched the television series first this was an eye opening experience for me. They did a good job of following the source material, but they left out so much interesting information. The story of Prax was so much more of a soap opera than I expected. But still, 5 out of 5.

What a ride

I watched the show before I listened to this book, and I was pleasantly surprised at how True to the source material they were. But I've got to say, it would be much more of a horror story if they had been completely faithful. Well done.

So many twists and turns in this one. I feel like I spent half my time trying to figure out who fabricated that message from Anya. It was a good fake out, and I knew there was no way Anya would be given such a castaway death. It was certainly a shock, but if it is going to happen, I know that it will hit in the heart a lot harder than that. And you had to wrench it in with one last twist at the end! McKnight is an unwilling traitor!?

A great continuation of the story. Unexpected, but certainly interesting, ending. It was certainly unexpected, to me, To be focusing on the other characters rather than the title character. But it was welcome.
