So Disappointed
Reviewed: 03-20-25
I don’t like writing a bad review, but have to be honest. When reading the description of the book they never mentioned there is heavy religion.
I am a Christian and walk in faith, but this book was such a disappointment because of the weight of the “faith”. Have you ever had one of those super gooey cinnamon rolls with the nice cream cheese frosting? My favorite. But, every once in a while the icing is so thick and sweet
- you just have stop and scrape a bunch of it off. That’s this book.
By Chapter Three Ann was slathering it on so heavy there is no way anyone (unless they live on the Hallmark Channel) would ever believe she is an experienced FBI agent. Not ever!!!
Too much fluff and goo - I’m done at Chapter 3.

I’ve read most of this author’s books - but this one is so convoluted- so many characters completely undeveloped - just crowded for seemingly no reason.
Don’t use a credit for this one.

Story
No electricity, no family, no connection to the outside world. For eight years, Cooper and his young daughter, Finch, have lived in isolation in a remote cabin in the northern Appalachian woods. And that's exactly the way Cooper wants it, because he's got a lot to hide. Finch has been raised on the books filling the cabin’s shelves and the beautiful but brutal code of life in the wilderness. But she’s starting to push back against the sheltered life Cooper has created for her - and he’s still haunted by the painful truth of what it took to get them there.

I think this book was one of those “suggested reading” samples they play when you’ve just finished your current read. I don’t know the author and I haven’t heard of the book before. But, smart Amazon, this is an excellent book, and you really do know my reading preferences.
The narrators engaged me immediately - perfect narration throughout. What was even better was the writing and the story itself, beautiful. I listened to those few minutes they play you as a sample - and bought it - listened to the whole thing!!
Absolutely loved this book and will be following the author (I can’t even tell you her name - except it starts with Kimi.)
Use the credit - money well spent.

One night, Molly Clarke walked away from her life. She doesn't want to be found. Or at least, that's the story. The car abandoned miles from home. The note found at a nearby hotel. The shattered family that couldn’t be put back together. They called it a “walk away.” It happens all the time. Women disappear, desperate to leave their lives behind and start over. But is that what really happened to Molly Clarke?

Stuck on Chapter 24
Reviewed: 02-02-25
I love this authors books - usually. This book, however, is so irritating and drags so much - I’ve decided to stop here at Chapter 24. I’m not going to archive it, will try again maybe in a month or so.
What was irritating? The narrator spoke so fast at times I made it a little slower on my device - but then she’d slow a little and it had to go back at put it back on 1. Irritating.
But, the worst was the amount of communication that was done in E-mails. It’s the same as when done in texting. Just because so many of the younger generation have gone to using texts and emailing vs calling or real conversations - it doesn’t make it good. It’s boring and terrible to submit the readers to it for hours.
Note to Author: Freida, you are such a great author, but you missed the mark on this one. Don’t dumb down your writing to pull in a younger generation, I’m afraid you could lose more than you get. Sorry, but I’m going to seriously look at the reviews before I chance another credit.

Her new boyfriend is utterly perfect. He's charming, handsome, and works as a doctor at a local hospital. Sydney is swept off her feet. Another great book by Freida McFadden. I have 2,300+ audiobooks here on Audible, lots of authors I really enjoy…but Freida M. Is my favorite.
The characters in this book, as in all of the books of hers that I’ve listened to, are so well developed you almost feel like the main character is a friend, or you. I’m 65 and when I can identify or empathize with a 16-year old girl - the writer is doing her job.
Well done Ms McFadden, I’m ready for the next one!!! Thanks.

The perfect neighborhood can be the perfect place to hide… Who wouldn’t want to live in Brighton Hills? This exclusive community on the Oregon coast is the perfect mix of luxury and natural beauty. Stunning houses nestle beneath mighty Douglas firs, and lush backyards roll down to the lakefront. It’s the kind of place where neighbors look out for one another. Sometimes a little too closely…

What a great book!

I’m not sure how I found this book. I know it was on sale, but that rarely influences me, I saw it had some good reviews, the description sounded interesting - so I decided to give it a try.
It is absolutely great book. I was engaged completely by the end of the first chapter. The characters are so well developed, and as the story progressed I was so invested it went everywhere with me - my daughter’s school, making dinner, doing dishes and I finished it just now. And isn’t that the hallmark of a wonderful story, to be told in a way that the reader/listener cannot put it down?
Somewhere in the 3D or 4th chapter I searcher for another book by this author, bought it. I’ve never listened or read one of her books before, but I’m now a fan!!
Worth the purchase/credit!
