About this listen

Two women. An office filled with secrets. One terrible crime that can't be taken back.

Dawn Schiff is strange.

At least, everyone thinks so at Vixed, the nutritional supplement company where Dawn works as an accountant. She never says the right thing. She has no friends. And she is always at her desk at precisely 8:45 a.m.

So when Dawn doesn't show up to the office one morning, her coworker Natalie Farrell―beautiful, popular, top sales rep five years running―is surprised. Then she receives an unsettling, anonymous phone call that changes everything…

It turns out Dawn wasn't just an awkward outsider―she was being targeted by someone close. And now Natalie is irrevocably tied to Dawn as she finds herself caught in a twisted game of cat and mouse that leaves her wondering: who's the real victim? But one thing is incredibly clear: somebody hated Dawn Schiff.

Enough to kill.

The Coworker is a tense, captivating thriller from New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden that explores the dark ways the past can echo through the present―with deadly consequences.

The writing is ok but the story is so contrived and ridiculous. Until I got used to it and put it into context with the character, the narration of Dawn made me want to gag or smash my phone. The good news is that I was able to multitask without fear of missing part of the story.

FRIEDA IS THE QUEEN

THIS BOOK WAS SO SO GOOD I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT The Coworker and the Housemaid are now tied for my favorite Frieda book!! This is the fastest I've ever finished a book, I couldn't stop listening. I hate mornings, but I even woke up early today, JUST to listen to this!! I even snuck a listen with an airpod at work 🙈 only thing is, I wish Frieda would’ve mentioned that Dawn has autism. It’s obvious to me (as a psychiatrist myself), but might not have been obvious to others seeing that ppl didn’t like how the narrator voiced her, but she voiced Dawn perfectly!

It was good (possible spoilers)

I really did enjoy the book. It was predictable at time, but the real twist was what was revealed about Natalies true self towards the end. Through out the book I knew she was vain, but I didn’t know the extent. Overall an enjoyable read, it got boring at times , but my still had my jaw dripping.

Taking Secrets To The Grave

I truly love Freida’s books. The way she had my mind all over the place trying to figure out who was guilty. I felt sorry for all the wrong reasons and people. There were some mean bullies, killers, liars, cheaters and thieves in this book. I don’t know how this company made it so long. This book proves you can’t always trust what you read or hear. I couldn’t catch my breath at the end when all of the secrets came spilling out. No one was innocent.

A Strong Message to Bullies!

Freida does not disappoint!

You never know where this author is going to lead you when you start one of her books. What I love most about this story is how it shows the ripple effect of bullying. How many of us true crime junkies read about cases like this on a regular basis? High school kids need to read this and realize the impact bullying can have long into adulthood. It's not just something that affects you when you are young; it stays with you. Freida highlights this in a thrilling way that only Freida could. This book had me hooked from start to finish.

Angsty & So Very Good

I listen to a new audio almost everyday and mysteries are my go to. I’ve listened to all of Freida’s books which are unique and incredibly written. I would not describe this one as suspenseful rather completely angsty. The twist more than halfway through is epic. Never would have thought of that but it’s so perfect. Freida’s writing as always is incredible and seamlessly flows from past to present. Character development is outstanding. Portraying Dawn’s quirks rather than labeling her on the spectrum added depth to her character. Listened nonstop thoroughly enjoyed it!

Narration was excellent. Alyson Krawchuk nailed everything about Dawn and Natalie!!
