Just finished the most recent book in the series, so this is an overall review. Absolutely entertaining, believable worlds and excellent characters. Moves at a high pace but you never feel left behind. Love the science and found the augmentations fun to imagine. Wonderfully fully fleshed out female protagonists! Can’t wait for the next book!

Story
Juliet Bianchi was once just another working drone, struggling to survive in a world where megacorporations reigned, information was power, and that power was worth killing for. Then she stumbled upon a kidnapping gone wrong and ended up with a stolen AI chip that took her from the bottom of the barrel to a top-tier realm of mercs, freelancers, and assorted unsavory folk.

Jennifer Thorne skewers all-too-familiar family dynamics in this sly, wickedly funny vacation-Gothic. Beautifully unhinged and deeply satisfying, Diavola is a sharp twist on the classic haunted house story, exploring loneliness, belonging, and the seemingly inescapable bonds of family mythology.

Stunning world building

Great follow-up to book 1. Very intricate but easy to follow, M.R. Carey is a genius at world and character building. Dami Olukoya is a fabulous narrator, easily differentiating between character and accents. I so thoroughly enjoyed Book 1, and Book 2 did not disappoint. Given the advent of AI in our current world, and our constant penchant for war mongering, it is a fascinating story on many levels. I would give it 8 stars I could. Get it, you won’t be disappointed.

Story
Riverside Close is a picture-perfect community. The six exclusive and attractive houses are tucked far away from the noise and grime of city life, allowing the residents to enjoy beautiful gardens, pleasant birdsong, and tranquility from behind the security of a locked gate. It is the perfect idyll, until the Kentworthy family arrives, with their four giant, gas-guzzling cars, gaggle of shrieking children, and plans for a garish swimming pool in the backyard. Obvious outsiders, the Kentworthys do not belong in Riverside Close, and quickly offend every last one of the neighbors.

Story
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

Story
It has been an eventful morning for Agnes Sharp and the other inhabitants of Sunset Hall, a house share for the old and unruly in the sleepy English countryside. Although they have had some issues (misplaced reading glasses, conflicting culinary tastes, decreasing mobility, and unruly grandsons), nothing prepares them for an unexpected visit from a police officer with some shocking news. A body has been discovered next door. Everyone puts on a long face for show, but they are secretly relieved the body in question is not the one they’re currently hiding in the shed (sorry, Lillith).

I can honestly say I have never read (or listened to) a story so ….quirky. But thoroughly enjoyable. As a senior citizen myself, I sympathized with the characters- as for the mystery, it was quite satisfying. The narrator did a top notch job, and I hope to stumble on this group of wildly independent seniors - and the tortoise- again.

First, I came to ‘Reacher’ via the tv show- so high bar there.
I really liked the story- kept up the pace really well and I do like a plausible surprise ending.
The narrator does a great job- to a point. I don’t care for his rendition of female voices, though I got used to it by the end. The other male voices- some of them- didn’t work well for me, either. But clearly not enough to stop listening! I’m looking forward to the next book- especially as I’ve binged all the tv stuff.
Off topic- why would anyone think Tom Cruise would make a good Reacher? Baffling.
