About this listen

From the author of the Victor of Tucson series comes the second installment of the action-packed, high-tech dystopian adventure begun with Electric Angel.

Juliet Bianchi was once just another working drone, struggling to survive in a world where megacorporations reigned, information was power, and that power was worth killing for. Then she stumbled upon a kidnapping gone wrong and ended up with a stolen AI chip that took her from the bottom of the barrel to a top-tier realm of mercs, freelancers, and assorted unsavory folk.

With a little help from her embedded AI, Angel, Juliet quickly proved herself as an operator in that realm: adapting, overcoming obstacles, and kicking some serious ass. Now known as "January" to others in the caper biz, she's still dealing with a betrayal that put her and her crew in danger—and emptied her coffers to boot. If she's ever going to get out of Phoenix (and maybe off-world), she'll have to get back on the horse and start pulling some paying jobs.

When she's hired to infiltrate Grave Industries, Juliet quickly discovers she may have to pay a price of her own. The job requires her to become an entirely different person in body and mind, and the deeper undercover she goes, the more she fears her new identity will control her life far longer than she'd like . . .

The second volume of the hit cyberpunk LitRPG series—with more than a million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Loved It

I was a little skeptical about how well I would like this sequel at first as I wasn't really feeling the beginning of the book but it really gets good shortly into it. I'm really looking forward to the next release.

Great GameLit Cyberpunk story

I like how even Juliet doesn’t want to know her own status. Great cyberpunk story, so many features that I can easily imagine as a game.

great follow-up to the first book

awesome narration, story, and character developments. just abit put off by the MC's constant reluctance to violence and killing, considering the number of kills she already done during the first book and this, but I guess thats your typical MC with that "unwavering goodness"

Only thing I was left unsatisfied with was Hot Mustard 😭. I hope we get to see him again in future books. I found myself waiting to hear from him for half the book 🥹

Really Stepping into Cyberpunk

The second entry in this series really takes a leap forward in terms of the broader world and cyberpunk setting. You are immersed in the larger culture and clued into some historical events which set the stage for current ones.

The characters continue to be fantastic and I look forward to continuing the series.

Excellent. Maybe even better than the first.

It’s so nice to listen to an audiobook where the hero/heroine isn’t required to make obvious mistakes whenever there is ominous foreshadowing. Juliet doesn’t always skate through without trouble, but her mistakes and failures are rarely telegraphed; which is how it should be.

Unfortunately, I keep listening to books that are otherwise well written but where the listener and MC are given the same information, but for whatever reason the MC always fails to come to the obvious conclusions that any listener would... And therefore is taken completely unawares.

Thankfully, Plumb Parrot has studiously avoided this trend.

And now, stepping down from my soapbox, I can only say that if you liked the first book then you’ll like this one too. It’s a fantastic follow up.

Spectacular jump in quality!!!

That is not to say the first book wasn't great, cause it was. However, after finishing this in two days I'm so hungry for more, and pray the 3rd book goes in the same direction.

First of all, I certainly wasn't expecting the shift from merc-action to spy thriller, but it is most certainly a welcome one. I honestly can't write a review glowing enough, after the excellent execution of this second entry, and can only recommend that people who's gone through the first book take this up for an even wilder ride. The story is a lot tighter woven, and even with the genre-change, there's still plenty of action and suspense.

And of course, i extend my gratitude to the wonderful Suzy Jackson, for a great performance and keen attention to tone and character.
