Story
To eight-year-old Bela, her family is her world. There’s Mommy, Daddo, and Grandma Ruth. But there is also Other Mommy, a malevolent entity who asks her every day: “Can I go inside your heart?” When horrifying incidents around the house signal that Other Mommy is growing tired of asking Bela the question over and over, Bela understands that unless she says yes, her family will soon pay. Other Mommy is getting restless, stronger, bolder. Only the bonds of family can keep Bela safe, but other incidents show cracks in her parents’ marriage. The safety Bela relies on is about to unravel.

Best narration I've EVER heard.
Reviewed: 08-05-24
And as the description promised, a very horrifying story. I'm a horror addict, and this book rang all the bells! But there's just one thing: you can't offer me characters to cherish (ok, Real Mommy was a bit much) and then end them in a way none of them deserves. An excremental ending, if ever there was one. Feh.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late. But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am. They don’t know what I’m capable of....

And brought to us by Lauryn Allman, they were a great mix of good/evil, smart/dumb, naughty/nice, and so on. Except, of course, for Millie (Milly?) who is all things to all people. Not really--I just love her like a sistah! The story was un-shutoffable from the first minute to the last, and I'm so glad there are sequels. Only TWO sequels. I know you're a very busy woman, Ms. McFadden, but c'mon...more Miilie! Anyway, thanks for everything! All love!

But I have never disliked a main character more. There she was, in nearly every sentence. With her nastiness and her crappy sense if humor. Whatever her mitigating circumstances were supposed to be, they were not enough. I haven't read many Lisa Gardner novels. I'll try again, but if there's a repeat of this kind of thing, that'll be it.

“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

Story
Truman Capote’s best-selling book In Cold Blood has captivated worldwide audiences for over 50 years. It is a gripping story about the consequences of a trivial robbery gone terribly wrong in a remote village of western Kansas. But what if robbery was not the motive at all but something more sinister? And why would the Kansas Bureau of Investigation press the attorney general to launch a ruthless four-year legal battle to prevent fresh details of the state’s most famous crime from being made public, so many years after the case had been solved?

Subtitle: Money talks! This plain reading by the author was very suitable for the revelations given in this riotous exposition of the real story behind Truman Capote's In Cold Blood. The money? Won't do spoilers, but there's a lot of 'who paid whom for what' all over the place. I found this highly enjoyable!

For therapist KC Davis, the birth of her second child triggered a stress-mess cycle. The more behind she felt, the less motivated she was to start. She didn’t fold a single piece of laundry for seven months. One life-changing realization restored her sanity—and the functionality of her home: You don’t work for your home; your home works for you.

Story
This Psych 312 assignment just might send me off the deep end. Determining whether love at first sight really exists with Robbie Moravian as my project partner of all people? He’s the sappiest man alive, so upbeat I could scream, and clearly rooting for happy endings at every turn. How does he not learn from experience considering our own meet-cute last semester almost got us expelled? But we both need to pass this course to graduate. So we’re interviewing five random couples about their meet-cutes and relationships and spending all this time together. Which is certainly...educational.
