Publisher's summary

The past isn't over....

An unspeakable act has ripped apart the idyllic town of Bakersville, Oregon, and its once-peaceful residents are demanding quick justice. But though a boy has confessed to the horrific crime, evidence shows he may not be guilty.

Officer Rainie Conner, leading her first homicide investigation, stands at the center of the controversy. It's hitting too close to home, bringing back her worst nightmares, threatening to expose her secret sins. But with the boy's life at stake, she won't let anything stop her from finding the real killer.

With the help of FBI profiler Pierce Quincy, Rainie comes closer to a deadly truth than she can imagine. Because out there in the shadows a man watches her and plots his next move. He knows her secrets. He kills for sport. He's already brought death to Bakersville and forever shattered the community. But what he has really come for is Rainie - and he won't leave until he has destroyed her....

New Favorite Author

I listened to the first in this series. A Perfect Husband, and loved it. So following the order of this series I just finished listening to the Third Victim.

Tough topic to address but feel it was done well at the time the book was written. Given there been so many more shootings since this was written, it was hard to listen to at times. The title gives many ways to think about the victims, and understanding some of the psychology for each of the characters. I hope as I continue listening to Lisa’s books that I learn she has taken on other tough topics.

Thrilling listen

This was one exciting listen, What a thrilling shocking listen. You have a little bit of everything in this story. It really held my attention from start to finish. The story is a great listen, with good character and a great plot. There are a lot of twists and turns, I sure didn't see some of them coming, and others are a big shock. It is a story that is heartbreaking, touching and very sad but at the same time thrilling and exciting. I really enjoyed it and have bought a few more from this author.

I thought the narrator did a wonderful job bring the story to life, giving emotions, pausing when you need her to, giving you an emotional touching listen. As I listen, I went through so many emotions, times I wanted to cry, laugh and even chuckle. There is no background noise, no repeating of words, no volume change. It really was a delightful listen that the narrator pulled me into.

Had me till the end!

I’m obsessed with crime books and murder mysteries, and this one took me by surprise I was unsure of who did it until the absolute end. This was a great read.

A different kind of story

This book grabbed me at the very beginning and the tension was unbelievable. The worse part about this story is that I could see it happening in real life. Perhaps I should read the beginning again. Maybe this is one of those stories that was built on a real life happening.
