This book has a lot of good information but it has ZERO compassion for anyone who has lived with a narcissist. Anyone who tells you it's easy to break away from a narcissist simply bc you have an intellectual understanding of what they're doing HAS NEVER DEALT WITH A NARCISSIST. No one who has suffered from being in a relationship with a narcissist needs to be spoken to like they're stupid or needs to be told repeatedly what they "should" do. It's not helpful at all. That's what this book does. The narrator has a lecturing voice that tells us all what to do without any acknowledgment of how hard it is to do. The narcissists in my life have the same smiley disposition, and it's sickening and insulting.

Extremely well done. In this age of toxic positivity, I always appreciate people who are willing to tell the full truth of their pain- both emotional and physical. It takes a lot of courage and it's a huge help to everyone who is forced to deal with people continuously telling them some version of "It's not that bad." Thank you.

Before Billy Porter was slaying red carpets and giving an iconic performance in the celebrated TV show Pose; before he was the Tony Award-winning star of Broadway’s Kinky Boots; and before he was an acclaimed recording artist, actor, playwright, and all-around diva, Porter was a young boy who didn’t fit in.

This type of narcissism is one of the most damaging forms because the abuse is so hidden and so insidious. You can be in a relationship that can last for decades and not realize you are being psychologically and emotionally controlled, manipulated, and abused.

Story
One third to one half of Americans are introverts in a culture that celebrates - even enforces - an ideal of extroversion and a cult of personality. Political leaders are charismatic, celebrities bask in the spotlight, and authority figures are assertive. It is no surprise that a quiet revolution has begun to emerge among the invisible half of the population, asserting that they are just as powerful in their own unique ways. The Irresistible Introvert embodies the spirit of this revival and breaks down the myth that charisma is reserved for extroverts only.

Story
In the winter of 2016, after sending her DNA to Ancestry.com to be tested, Christine Jacobsen confirmed the secret her mother had half-revealed 50 years earlier: The White man who had raised her was not her biological father. Christine was not of full Danish descent after all. Instead, she discovered that a quarter of the blood flowing through her veins is West African. Her sense of self immediately crumbled. Who was she? Who was her biological father? Did the father who raised her, now deceased, know about this?

great story! interesting and well told! also, I know the author and she's awesome.
There's a lot of stupid requirements to leave a review, like the extra words I'm writing so I can meet the minimum word requirement. They are also telling me a heading is required, which is bull****. I would write a lot more reviews if each one didn't have to be a f***ing essay.
