Story
Our narrator should be happy, shouldn't she? She's young, thin, pretty, a recent Columbia graduate; she works an easy job at a hip art gallery and lives in an apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan paid for, like the rest of her needs, by her inheritance. But there is a dark and vacuous hole in her heart, and it isn't just the loss of her parents, or the way her Wall Street boyfriend treats her, or her sadomasochistic relationship with her best friend, Reva. It's the year 2000 in a city aglitter with wealth and possibility; what could be so terribly wrong?

Not worth it, worse than expected

All about nothing. The only semblance of depth occurs in the last 1% of the book. I was waiting for something to happen and then nothing ever really did. Did not feel invested in any of the characters.

Story
The Courage to Be Disliked, already an enormous best seller in Asia with more than 3.5 million copies sold, demonstrates how to unlock the power within yourself to be the person you truly want to be. Using the theories of Alfred Adler, one of the three giants of 20th-century psychology, The Courage to Be Disliked follows an illuminating conversation between a philosopher and a young man. The philosopher explains to his pupil how each of us is able to determine our own life, free from the shackles of past experiences, doubts, and the expectations of others.

Great, worth reading! (in spite of the narration)
Reviewed: 11-13-19
Very interesting ideas to ponder and thoughts on thinking about thinking. Really enjoyed it! Will be looking for more books on Adlerian psychology.
The narration is split across 3 different voices for the dialog. I found it annoying at first but understand why they did it. The younger male voice is really annoying in particular. The content makes it worth dealing with though.
I'd recommend reading a physical book for this one over the audiobook because of the narration.

The Etymologicon is a completely unauthorized guide to the strange underpinnings of the English language. It explains: How you get from “gruntled” to “disgruntled”; why you are absolutely right to believe that your meager salary barely covers “money for salt”; how the biggest chain of coffee shops in the world (hint: Seattle) connects to whaling in Nantucket; and what precisely the Rolling Stones have to do with gardening.

You can hear the emotion in the authors voice when he speaks. You can tell how deeply he has considered every word he used. At times you can't help but cry along with him and his convictions.
Thank you for writing this, Dr. Peterson. Please continue your work, we all want and, honestly, need to hear more from you.

Inspiring, eloquent, and interesting
Reviewed: 03-12-17
The topic of the book could potentially lend itself to exaggerated claims of complete fantasty. However, this book is far from ridiculously outlandish!
The author carefully examines current trends and extrapolates them to their reasonable future. The book will leave you incredibly optimistic, though slightly wary, of the likely future to come.
I particularly loved the parts at the end of each chapter that had short "day-in-the-life"-style narratives that envisioned what living with these future trends would look like.
As for the many people claiming the book was "obvious" -- that's the point! The book makes complete sense and takes you on the path that makes you think "oh, I could have thought of this". In all likelihood, you had in fact not thought of it already. Anyone saying they had thought of all of this already is completely fooling themselves. The author's delicate hand in explanation is pure genius.

Story
A business parable about how to create a start-up that won't trap you when you want to sell it. According to John Warrillow, the number one mistake entrepreneurs make is to build a business that relies too heavily on them. Thus, when the time comes to sell, buyers aren't confident that the company-even if it's profitable-can stand on its own. To illustrate this, Warrillow introduces us to a fictional small business owner named Alex who is struggling to sell his advertising agency.

Narrator is fine, listen on 1.5x speed
Reviewed: 02-27-17
The advice in the book is given through a fictional narrative of a person adapting and then selling his company. Very good for putting you into the shoes of someone in such a scenerio. Advice is fairly obvious though most people wouldn't neccesarily think about the points he brings up.
A lot of reviews have been complaining about the narrator. I agree he speaks very slowly and that would be annoying to listen to. However, pushing the play speed up to 1.5x or more fixes the issue entirely.
