Story
When mystery author D. B. Ziegler is late delivering her book, Abi Schore steps in to help. Surely she can give her favorite author moral support over the holiday break and get the manuscript to her boss at Tea & Sympathy Publishing in time for the new year. When Abi shows up on Ms. Ziegler’s doorstep bearing holiday treats, she’s met by the author’s handsome grandson Dov, who reveals a startling plot twist. His grandmother isn’t able to finish the book and Dov promised he’d complete it so fans won’t be disappointed—a task that’s harder than he ever imagined.

I wanted an easy listen and i can say that i thoroughly enjoyed it. It felt cheesy at times. I laughed or smiled at other parts. I wished it were a little bit longer? More so, i didn’t want it to end.

I loved Monica’s previous book Raising Amazing. This one was more practical advice on homeschooling. As a possible homeschool family in the future, I loved every second of this book.

Older Mom Mentor
Reviewed: 01-09-25
Do you wish you had an older mom mentor to help you raise your kids? If so, this book felt like that. Monica has launched three boys, and still in the thick of raising another. I was especially encouraged with her training on how to teach her kids to explain the gospel, and the importance of good character. This is one of those books you read (or listen slowly) and possibly again and again over the seasons of motherhood.
Hearing from her husband and kids was a special touch, although it did feel a bit scripted 🫣

"Who am I becoming?" That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. Outwardly, he appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren’t pretty. So, he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: "Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life." It wasn’t the response he expected, but it was - and continues to be - the answer he needs. Within this audiobook, you’ll find a fascinating road map to staying emotionally healthy and spiritually alive in the chaos of the modern world.

Love Carlos and his story of disconnecting
Reviewed: 10-08-24
I loved listening to this book being read by the author. The stories of his time at the Abbey and his time on the Amish farm was really eye-opening. I realized I don’t know much about monks or Amish people. I did enjoy the takeaways, although I did not feel like they were life altering. I wish perhaps there was an end of book summary with all the takeaways.

Took 2 tries but glad i listened
Reviewed: 09-07-24
I listened to this book and had to restart it because the beginning felt too slow and I got distracted, After the first chapter or 2 I was hooked. This wasn’t necessarily a book i had to binge read/listen, but it was one i wanted to continue to figure out what would happen. The pace of the plot was perfect. I enjoyed the buildup, the relationships, the amount of descriptors and dialogue,
Truly an enjoyable read/listen.

Loved her heart about educating others

If I had to rate this book off of what i learned, i would have given it 3 stars. BUT - that’s because i don’t think this book was meant for me. While i didn’t learn a lot from my parents, i was definitely more well off than Yanely and those i think she is writing too.
But i loved her message, her storytelling style, and her recommendations. She kept it real and simple. If you’re a Dave Ramsay fan, this book may not be 100% for you… but Dave is more on the extreme side of financial literacy and building wealth.
This book is for anyone who grew up poor or feels extremely uneducated about all things finances.

Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

I binge read/listened to this book, desperate to find out what happened. While i loved the growth from both Violet and Xaden, their immaturity was still rather annoying (although very realistic for 20-something year olds).
I loved getting more insight into Gen Sorengail, Dain, Xaden and a few others. I did tear up at one point near the end, although i blame it on being pregnant.
I think i enjoyed this book more than the first. I can’t wait for the third.

Oddly enough, i chose this book after reading the Frozen river. I realized i enjoyed stories from the 1700’s and wanted more. I wasn’t expecting to
enjoy this listen as must as i did. I laughed, i teared up a bit, and i sat with anticipation at very pivotal
moments. I loved Deborah’s boldness, her courage, and her strength to push through even though it was hard. While I wish this book had more truth to it (the author admits to what parts were fabricated), i do appreciate the storyline regardless.

Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

Reviewed: 01-19-24
I loved everything about this novel. From the narrators voice, to the amount of description included, to the storyline and the play with time. Martha, was a very likable middle aged character. I loved her devotion to her husband, her family and her work. This story almost made me wish i lived in the 1700s, where my time would be spent working much harder, but living a more slow and joy filled life (despite the injustices of the law and how it devalued women).
This book was about a midwife who inspects a body uncovered in the river. He was murdered, and now her curiosity leads her to discover what really happened. It also navigated the relationship between a horrible man and- Joseph North - a col, who sat as judge in the town, and Martha.
Seriously loved loved loved this book!
