Story
For GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton, McAlpine Lodge seems like the ideal getaway to celebrate their honeymoon. Set on a gorgeous, off-the-grid mountaintop property, it’s the perfect place to unplug and reconnect. Until a bone-chilling scream cuts through the night. Mercy McAlpine, the manager of the Lodge, is dead. With a vicious storm raging and the one access road to the property washed out, the murderer must be someone on the mountain. But as Will and Sara investigate the McAlpine family and the other guests, they realize that everyone here is lying.

Another great one from Karin Slaughter! Some reviewers were upset by references to President Reagan. I found them appropriate jabs considering the characters who made them. Karin Slaughter has always been true to historical details. I wouldn’t want it any other way! There is no agenda here. Can’t wait for the next installment with Andrea Oliver, Leonard Bible, et al!!

Story
Leigh Collier has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She has a good job as a defense attorney, a daughter doing well in school, and even her divorce is relatively civilized - her life is just as unremarkable as she’d always hoped it would be. But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood that was far from average...a childhood tarnished by secrets, broken by betrayal, and finally torn apart by a devastating act of violence.

Excellent Karin Slaughter and Kathleen Early!
Reviewed: 10-23-22
Covid references were realistic and didn’t bother me at all. Story was Slaughter at her best and voices by Early were great as usual. Only one thing was wrong where character Sydney Winslow was getting a doctorate in psychiatry at Emory University. Psychiatrist’s are MD’s and the degree is not called a doctorate; author must have meant psychology. Anyhow most of her intricate details are accurate so we can cut her slack on this one. I’m puzzled why so many reviewers had a problem with the Covid backdrop. It’s a part of our history and a lot of this book takes place in 2021. Slaughter has a lot of accuracy in her flashbacks so she should also in present day. Thoroughly enjoyed this one while I’m waiting for next Will Trent!!

New York, 2061: The place called the Pleasure Academy is a living nightmare where abducted girls are trapped, trained for a life of abject service while their souls are slowly but surely destroyed. Dorian, a thirteen-year-old runaway who’d been imprisoned there, might never have made it out if not for her fellow inmate Mina, who’d hatched the escape plan. Mina was the more daring of the two—but they’d been equally desperate.

Outstanding! The good guys win! The unimaginable horrific reality of human trafficking is taken on by Nora Roberts and handled brilliantly by all of the characters she created. A bit formulaic but it’s the formula we all love and crave in each new installment. I hope I live long enough to have an auto chef!! Until we meet again with Dallas, Roarke, Peabody, Mavis, and the whole gang! Wish we didn’t have to wait until February 2023.
