Story
Emma Wheeler desperately longs to be a screenwriter. She’s spent her life studying, obsessing over, and writing romantic comedies—good ones! That win contests! But she’s also been the sole caretaker for her kind-hearted dad, who needs full-time care. Now, when she gets a chance to re-write a script for famous screenwriter Charlie Yates—The Charlie Yates! Her personal writing god!—it’s a break too big to pass up.

Family, love, humor and tenderness
Reviewed: 07-24-24
I love reading all sorts of books, mainly fiction. And, I think Katherine Center is my favorite author now. I've read every book she's published, and especially enjoyed her final thoughts at the end of this one. I feel like I always learn a few things. She encourages her readers to be more kind and forgiving and honest. I recently read/listened to What you Wish For and liked it as well, but her end credit thoughts on the joy of reading was my favorite part of the book. I will revisit each of her books to make sure I haven't missed anything. I am also a Texan, who has unruly curly red hair and used to live in Houston. So, maybe I'm biased. ❤️

Riverside Close is a picture-perfect community. The six exclusive and attractive houses are tucked far away from the noise and grime of city life, allowing the residents to enjoy beautiful gardens, pleasant birdsong, and tranquility from behind the security of a locked gate. It is the perfect idyll, until the Kentworthy family arrives, with their four giant, gas-guzzling cars, gaggle of shrieking children, and plans for a garish swimming pool in the backyard. Obvious outsiders, the Kentworthys do not belong in Riverside Close, and quickly offend every last one of the neighbors.

Story
Widower Noah Shilling considers Clarion Court to be less an independent living community and more a prison. But there may be hope for the place yet. The newest resident is bold, eccentric, rule-breaking Cassandra Joyce—whom, as it turns out, Noah met long ago in college. As Noah and Cassandra get reacquainted, major changes at Clarion Court force them both to reevaluate their living situation. When Noah invites Cassandra to rough it with him at his Cape Cod cottage, the old friends must decide whether they should risk embarking on the next stage of their journey together.

a nice but meandering story, a bit boring 😴

I sort of liked the main characters. But i thought Cassandra was stubborn and controlling and Noah had to yield to her too often.

This story is too word-y. I haven't finished it yet, but have listened to several other Christmas stories I'd recommend: In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren, Let it Snow by Beth Moran, The Christmas Bookshop by Jenny Colgan, The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk. I'll try to finish this one and may revise my opinion later.

It's tough to decide my favorite member. but, I think Ron. A few more friends were added in this one. And sounds like there will be at least six books in the series (enjoy the interview with Richard Osman after the book). It's worth noting the narrator was different from the first two audio books. And, she's very good as well. Too me Joyce's voice is Lesley Manville. But, I did enjoy Fiona Shaw's more baritone voice as well. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Now, after breaking the spell that confined her to the shallows of a marshland and weakened her magic, Elena is struggling to return to her former life. And the vineyard she was destined to inherit is now in the possession of a handsome stranger.

When Ollie follows some of their more extreme advice, chaos inevitably ensues.
