Story
Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they're real.

This is probably one of my favorite books I’ve ever listened to-and I have over 200 titles in my audible library. I laughed, my heart skipped beats… and the author crafted what will now be considered one of my favorite quotes of all time. Kingfisher stole my heart and I don’t want him to give it back! The spice was perfect and felt necessary to the progression of story rather than just for the sake of having it in the book. 🔥
The narrators were incredible; the writing was so descriptive I felt like I was there for every moment. Honestly, I just loved the adventure and romance intertwined in every scene. From the first page to the last, I was hooked and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
The only negative is that I don’t get to listen to this book “for the first time” again. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book sunk its talons into my heart and didn’t let go for a single moment.
It’s been many months (maybe a year) since I’ve loved a book so much that I spent every minute devouring it. Bear in mind, these past few months included much of ACOTAR, Fourth Wing, From
Blood and Ash, Book of Azrael, and more.
Narration was wonderful, and I loved the storyline. Can’t wait for book 2.

Gosh I love a good Christi Caldwell book. I love a good sea captain love story even more.
Listened to the end. And if you read some of my recent reviews of other books, I’ve been unlucky with my audible downloads lately. But not with this one!
In all fairness, I did skip through the love-making scenes. I love steam, but I’m just not as much a fan of “full-steam ahead” if that makes sense! But having listened to plenty of those scenes in other Caldwell books, I’m sure fans that love those scenes will be happy with that too.
So glad I got this one!

Orphaned at young ages, Lady Katherine Ashton and her brother have spent most of their lives on the high seas, seeking to restore their family fortune through somewhat dubious means. After that kind of adventure, Kate knows, she won't ever be accepted as a proper society lady. To the annoyingly clever, temptingly handsome, and altogether troublesome Earl of Wynbrook, society ladies are a dead bore. Kate, on the other hand, is scandalous, alluring, and altogether fascinating.

About two hours too long. Intriguing storyline and kept my attention pretty glued for the first half of the book!
The past three hours I became a bit bored honestly. Keeps dragging on. So I’ll just tie this story up in a little bow and say to myself, “…and they lived happily ever after.”
Maybe I’ll come back to it one day! Male voices a bit too feminine for my taste and kept pulling me out of the story.

Sir Phillip knew that Eloise Bridgerton was a spinster, and so he'd proposed, figuring that she'd be homely and unassuming, and more than a little desperate for an offer of marriage. Except...she wasn't. The beautiful woman on his doorstep was anything but quiet, and when she stopped talking long enough to close her mouth, all he wanted to do was kiss her... and more. Did he think she was mad?

Sorry, Julia Quinn. It’s a no from me! Too boring and very little happens in the first three hours other than a whiny hero and his rotten kids with dear Eloise caught in the crossfire.
Maybe it picks up and is a beautiful book after all (I am 3.5 hours in) but I’m not sticking around to find out :/
Edit: I went back and checked, I’m actually 4.5 hrs in to the book. Doesn’t help this book’s case IMO 😂 Kind of sad about it all, because I generally love Julia Quinn novels.

Lady Myrtle McQuoid has always felt a little forgotten, and this season is no exception. When her boisterous family vacates their London townhouse for the country, Myrtle finds she’s been left behind. But she just needs to stay warm, keep her belly full, and distract herself until her relatives realize their mistake and turn back to collect her. Surely that won’t take long.

May we all embrace our inner Myrtle!
Reviewed: 02-02-23
I *almost* let the initial negative reviews sway me. So much so that about two hours in, I attempted to write a negative review of the book and say I didn’t finish. My internet went out, and I wasn’t able to submit.
Oddly enough, just a few hours later, I decided to hit ‘play’ again because I wanted to find out what happened next and to see if the book improved.
Here’s what I found:
The world needs more Myrtles. Once I embraced the beauty that is our heroine and her innocent joy for life, I became immersed in the story and couldn’t put it down. Myrtle isn’t annoying, she has joy and a zest for life—something I feel many of us are hardened from.
Essentially we are similar to Val, hardened by traumatic, dark, sad life experiences that make a young woman with a passion for all the happy things seem annoying instead of joyful. I say this because I was just like her some years ago. Happy, full of joy for life, dreaming of a deep love—-I even have Jane Austen novels with notes in the margin.
Then, life happens and with it pieces if that innocent joy go with it-and we find Myrtles grating instead of uplifting.
So here’s my advice: open your heart from the very first page. Don’t overanalyze and just enjoy the unique, sometimes hilarious situations our two main characters find themselves in- and how from that came love. There is humor, passion, and desire all while dealing with very real life problems that can affect us all—and Caldwell beautifully shows how love can soften even the hardest of hearts.
Ignore the naysayers. I loved this book!

23 hours of listening and never once did I become bored. I can listen to a seven hour Regency Romance (which I still love!), and two hours in for some books feels like an eternity.
This series is a spicy, immersive escape into a colorful fantasy world filled with undying love and passion, unbreakable friendships, and justice-seeking against incredible forces of evil that could end the world. Even that description doesn’t do this book (and series) justice.
Rheysand is my hero.

Yes yes I know, the high ratings are insanely high. Unfortunately, I had months of hesitation to listen due to the negative reviews I first read.. But, on a long road trip a few days ago, I decided, “why not.. it’s just a credit, right?”
If only you could see me now, “Pinterest-ing”fan art of all the main characters and Googling to see if this will become a TV show. Can you hear the lub-dub of my heart still pounding?
I don’t even want to spoil anything for you other than to say.. this book is a wild ride.
Trust the high ratings. Ignore any negative reviews; they have stupid goggles on if they disliked this book.
On to the next one. 🤍
