First off the narration was great. Imogen Church is one of my favorite narrators .The plot had potential but was choppy and down right ridiculous at times. The ending felt predictable. Disappointed by this one as there are a few books from this author I really enjoyed

Story
My fiancé brought me tea and scrambled eggs in bed that morning, and we snuggled together, talking about buying our rings, and about our perfect wedding next year. Then we headed into town. He held my hand and gazed at the ring I liked best, a smile spreading slowly over his face. Then a glass of bubbly to celebrate. I felt flushed, excited and ready for the rest of my life with the man I loved. We race to get on the train home. It screams to a halt and I run towards its open doors. Made it. I think he’s right behind me — but when I turn around, he’s gone.

Socially awkward Chloe Cooper divides her time between dog walking, bartending, caring for her ailing mother, and at a safe distance, watching people and inventing the stories of their lives. Like Chloe’s new neighbors: glamorous influencer Jemma Spengler and Jemma’s husband, Adam, a renowned surgeon. They’re attractive, wealthy, and in a house of open windows, so exposed.

Story
The worst thing to ever happen on Hemlock Circle occurred in Ethan Marsh’s backyard. One July night, ten-year-old Ethan and his best friend and neighbor, Billy, fell asleep in a tent set up on a manicured lawn in a quiet, quaint New Jersey cul-de-sac. In the morning, Ethan woke up alone. During the night, someone had sliced the tent open with a knife and taken Billy. He was never seen again. Thirty years later, Ethan has reluctantly returned to his childhood home. Plagued by bad dreams and insomnia, he begins to notice strange things happening in the middle of the night.

Not his best but not bad
Reviewed: 06-20-24
While certainly not his best work, the first 50% and last few chapters were enough to save the rating of this book . The in between bits seemed to be thrown in as filler in an attempt to distract but it just ended up falling flat and I found myself wanting to skip through it all. I will say Riley does a good job with foreshadowing so that the ending ties things in a bit. The narrator could have been better - the way he kept saying "screech" grated on my nerves but maybe that was the point .

It’s the opening night of The Manor, the newest and hottest luxury resort, and no expense, small or large, has been spared. The infinity pool sparkles; the “Manor Mule” cocktail (grapefruit, ginger, vodka, and a dash of CBD oil) is being poured with a heavy hand. Everyone is wearing linen.

Absolutely nothing happened in 90% of this book except the constant mention of birds and adults with teenage drama. When the "secret" was revealed it fell flat and honestly at that point I didn't really care. A real disappointment for me since I was looking forward to this one.
One positive - the mention of Trinidad

I usually enjoy Ruth Ware books but this fell flat, with an overdone trope. The story dragged on for too long and there was no real twist. It is extremely similar to The Missing by Kiersten modglin but that book was better.
