“A deliciously juicy, smartly paced blend of folk horror, psychological thriller, and social satire… Thoroughly satisfying.”–AirMail

Secrets. Lies. Murder. Let the festivities begin…

It’s the opening night of The Manor, the newest and hottest luxury resort, and no expense, small or large, has been spared. The infinity pool sparkles; the “Manor Mule” cocktail (grapefruit, ginger, vodka, and a dash of CBD oil) is being poured with a heavy hand. Everyone is wearing linen.

But under the burning midsummer sun, darkness stirs. Old friends and enemies circulate among the guests. Just outside the Manor’s immaculately kept grounds, an ancient forest bristles with secrets. And it’s not too long before the local police are called. Turns out the past has crashed the party, with deadly results.

I generally enjoy multiple vantage point books, so I liked the structure of this one. The overall plot and story lines didn’t maintain my interest because a few of them were kind of predictable. It was less of a whodunit, and more of a how was it done book.

Anticlimactic

The narration is not good and the storyline is almost impossible to follow. If you liked The Paris Apartment skip this.

Not Good

I liked the Guest List much better. That’s the reason I wanted to read this one, but disappointed. Just not excited about the characters.

Not that interesting

Too many loose ends tied together at the end. Many weren’t obvious and could have been left out. It went from intense to eye roll in the end. It felt more soap opera than horror story. The missing family member at the end was a bridge too far.

It got me and then it lost me.

I found this book a bit ridiculous. Really wanted to love it but just wanted it to end.

Not her best

There was not one likable character and that is a big deal for me. Not one.

Very well read

Maybe it’s because I was so excited for this due to loving all her other books that I built up my expectation and it fell flat? It felt very obvious what would happen and wasn’t nearly as engaging as her other books. Still not her best is so much better than what other authors put into the world so hopefully the next one won’t disappoint!

Let Down

All of Lucy Foley’s books are amazing and her voice actors are the best in the game.

I love the voice actors

Even when I knew where it was going, the plots and turns of this story kept me surprised and engaged, and the ending left me feeling satisfied, with some plots reminiscent of the last season of True Detective. I was also very impressed by the voice actors and the changes between them to grant wider range and depth to the different characters they portrayed.

A fun and intriguing take on “holistic” gentrification

Couldn’t stop listening to this one! Finished in 2 days! The plot, the performance —everything is perfect

Impeccable thriller
