Story
It was supposed to be a simple scouting mission. In and out. No fighting. No new quests. Just me, my hippocorn, Alice, and a few hired mercenaries. We were going to tiptoe into the Spiral, get the info we needed, and leave. You know, the Spiral? That tower-defense run that protects the hobgoblin capital from invaders? Easy, right? Nobody would even know we were there. Yeah, so about that....

I really hope book 3 comes out, this was so good. I found a vague forum post from 4 years ago saying it would happen, so here's hoping it does~

The City of Inventions, Pallass, is a fascinating place. Erin Solstice is on a break from her inn. Not for long; she's returning with more Skills, but she has changed. She will return with her usual chaos and wonder, but always differently. Now, there are flames and... a garden?

It lost it's soul
Reviewed: 02-11-25
I... loved this series, but this book just didn't feel like the rest of them. It's soul was the characters and relationships, humor, and love.
The book felt rushed, like the author just wanted to be done with it, and move on. Which I get... but I would have preferred an eternal cliff hanger to... this.
Axel, Jada, Moles, Phyllis, and Dufus, didn't deserve this.
All the small glimmers of hope, the character reactions, humor, and love was just all gone, replaced by a rushed black hole with a timeline that never seemed to make sense.

95% amazing
Reviewed: 11-03-24
I loved most of the book. It was such an amazing twist on the apocalypse gene.
Also, considering this was written in 2018, it was kind of spooky how it predicted some of the stuff that happened during covid-- like the pandemic fashion shows.
But... it just didn't stick the landing. The ending just sort of peters out without a sense of closure. It feels unfinished. Which was maybe the intent?
But it needed something deeper for those last few pages. It felt like it was trying for something, but just didn't get there in the delivery. Which sucks, considering how good the rest of it was.

Due to unusual circumstances, Randidly starts in an isolated dungeon far beyond his level, forced to rely on the mysterious Traveler Shal in order to learn and survive with the dangerous new status quo for his world. But survive he does, only to leave the dungeon and discover that while he experienced several hellish months in the dungeon, only half a day passed on Earth. Randidly's capabilities are now more than enough to help build a small enclave of survivors, but that doesn't mean balancing his sense of responsibility against the plots of an unfriendly town will be easy.

Good narrator, bad story
Reviewed: 10-23-24
The first 5th of the book was okay, but then the second Ghosthound starts interacting with other people he becomes brooding Edgelord Mcgee.
Like... how did this person ever survive as a human being before this? The interpersonal interactions he has are so bad, it seemed more alien than human.
I get that he had trauma from the dungeon, but why and the heck would it take 3 days to ask the one competent person their name?
It was worse than some extra broody batman fan fiction.
The narration was top tier though. But damn, this is not worth a credit.

Just what I was in the moood for
Reviewed: 06-04-24
The start was a little rough, but it got into its stride pretty fast.
I could see hints of The Wandering Inn, Newbtown, and some dnd mixed in. It was a good combo and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The cover art is good, but I wonder if it sends the wrong message. It makes it seem more lustful, than the peaceful (if fraught) journey that it became.
Not that I would have minded one way or another, as I do love romance and/or fantasy, but I think something that focused on the farm in the background, whole also showing the big bara bullman eyecandy and the busty orc, would convey what it is a bit better.
But who knows what the algorithm has decided sells well? Maybe sexy shirtless bull men give a good starting pasture to nibble on before getting hooked.

Loved this series.
I was kind of put off by book six, because it was kind of a slog without a lot of breathing room between fighting.
But this had a perfect blend of action, world building, character development, and just fun interactions. It was a delight to read, and I know I'll recommend this to others.
