About this listen

This ain't your daddy's tower defense!

Popper, Jonah, Gretchen, and Alice are back! The Hobgoblin Riot: Dominion of Blades, Book 2. A LitRPG adventure.

Clusterf--k: clus·ter·f--k. Vulgar slang. Noun.

  1. A disastrously and utterly mishandled situation or undertaking.
  2. Popper’s scouting mission to Castellane.

It was supposed to be a simple scouting mission. In and out. No fighting. No new quests. Just me, my hippocorn, Alice, and a few hired mercenaries. We were going to tiptoe into the Spiral, get the info we needed, and leave. You know, the Spiral? That tower-defense run that protects the hobgoblin capital from invaders?

Easy, right? Nobody would even know we were there.

Yeah, so about that....

LitRPG means Literary Role Playing Game. Simply put, it’s the book version of watching someone play a video game, usually one that’s set up like an MMO (massively multiplayer online) RPG. It’s a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, depending on how it comes to be that our main character ends up living inside a virtual reality. the point of LitRPG is not how we get there, but that we get to be in this virtual reality period, living life as a badass video-game character. Beat the grind and submerse yourself in these addictive LitRPGs.

Thanks Matt I have nightmare fuel for years

There are some messed up imaginations in this worlds. The one passed out to Matt should have never made it out of quality control. I might be a light weight when it comes to mind numbing spine shivering disgusting and disturbing. I hate you Matt I hate you I hate you. LITRPG is supposed to be a safe fun read. Not a rollercoaster ride of anguish pain and torment. I've watched anime with less feels than this book.

If you thought this was just some cute little romp through a game world with a tower defence theme you can just forget it. The rich and unrelenting character development makes all of these twisting turning adventures into absolutely gut wrenching trails.

Andrea's ridiculous ability to craft character after character makes this entire experience even more grueling. The woman sounds like an entire village.

The trap that this book creates is enough to make void in your soul so poignant that the only thing that fill it is another book. And considering the next one is so distant the pain is so much more intense.

Oh man is it perfect.

I'll be honest

I really can not explain how much I love this book, and subsequently Matt Dinniman and Andrea Parsneau. this book even hits my "once a month relisten" list. if you haven't read the first book, you need to start there (especially with the new sweet cover!!) Dinniman's style is very unique and quirky. He touches very subtly on a lot of controversial topics, then smashes you in the face with others. They all have one thing in common; moving the story forward. The banter between the characters is some of the best I've had the opportunity of enjoying. I can not wait for the third book to come out!

Don't judge a book by the comments alone

I've became a huge fan of Matt Dinniman. because he challenges himself as a writer. That's exactly what he did here in this book. not only does he write from the perspective of the three main characters but also from several NPCs. Some of which are not even human. as for the narrator, she does an amazing job voicing so many different and varied characters. I think both did an amazing job on this. The only reason it doesn't have five stars across the board. is so that you would know that this is a real person and not a computer or someone who got this book for free to review. I paid money for it and enjoyed all 18 hours of this book. thank you Matt! I can't wait for the next book.

how did this turn into a towerdefense?

Seriously compelling, but certainly not what I was expecting after the first one.
The humor and the wonderful writing remains the same though :)

A fun story and amazing character development

I usually don't write out a review, but I had to for this book. The story is as fun as the first book. But the character development is much improved. My heart can't help but break for some of their backstories. The fact that I care about them this much, has enhanced my estimation of Mr. Dinniman. Thank you for this story.

Looking forward to book three when it is finally released. Love the characters and their real life internal struggles and their ability to overcome all while making a captivating storyline.

Best LitRPG series I've listened to.

Almost 19 hours, and you'll be rapt through the whole thing. I love this story. And the performance is spectacular. Andrea Parsneau is so good with all these voices and accents, she's like the Swiss Army knife of audiobook narrators. Phenomenal!
