Story
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Unique and entertaining

I was so glad I stumbled across this book. I'm a big fan of Bray and look for books read by him. I was delighted with the book, the unique characters (esp. the dog) and, for me, the unique storyline. This is my first Alanson book so I have nothing to compare it to in listening history, I love the humor in the book - I found myself laughing out loud at certain points. I'm really looking forward to the continuation of this series.

Story
A phenomenon known as crustal displacement shifts the Earth's crust, repositioning continents and causing countless deaths. In the wake of the global catastrophe, the world struggles to take care of its displaced billions. But Antarctica, freshly thawed and blooming, has emerged as a new hope. Rather than wage a world war no nation can endure, the leading nations devise a competition, a race to the center of Antarctica, with the three victors dividing the continent.

This book is a part of Robinson’s The Last Hunter series. I didn’t knitwear that the first time I listened to it. Recently I started reading the series and had seen an online comment regarding this. So when I started The Last Hunter series I re-read this after the first two books in the series. It added a lot of information that added to. The rest of the story. It can stand alone but adds so much to the larger saga.

Story
In all the days since my kidnapping, breaking and transformation into a hunter at the hands of the half-human, half-demon Nephilim, my life has been a mass of chaotic actions and reactions to the horrors of the Antarctic underworld. I have battled unnatural monsters, fled for my life, and sacrificed everything - or thought I had, when I stepped through the gates of Tartarus. Every choice I have made was in response to forces beyond my control, lacking any kind of direction.

Story
I no longer exist. My kidnapping, breaking and corruption at the hands of the half-human, half-demon Nephilim began the journey to nothingness. I had hoped to one day rejoin my loved ones in the outside world, but before I realized it, 20 years had passed. Time is a distance I cannot traverse. If there is any memory of me, it is distant. Worse, the spirit of Nephil, used my connection with the continent to decimate the surface world. I've done horrible things in the past, but I'm now responsible for the deaths of billions.

"I've been told that the entire continent of Antarctica groaned at the moment of my birth. The howl tore across glaciers, over mountains and deep into the ice. Everyone says so. Except for my father; all he heard was Mother's sobs. Not of pain, but of joy, so he says. Other than that, the only verifiable fact about the day I was born is that an iceberg the size of Los Angeles broke free from the ice shelf a few miles off the coast."

This review is written from a perspective of having finished the series. Once I got into listening I didn’t want to take the time to write a review. This whole series is so extraordinary. It seems as though each time you think you know what is going on something totally unexpected happens. When I finished the series I wanted to start listening all over again.

I enjoyed this book so much I lost an entire night’s sleep because I just couldn’t stop listening. Had to know what was going to happen next. Figuring out what was happening along with the main character was fascinating. Over all it was a unique read that I’m sure I will read again now knowing the ending to pick up hints I probably missed the first time.

The story had me guessing and then surprised at each turn of event. Looking forward to listening to other books by this author and see if they captivate me as much as this one did.
