Story
It’s not always easy to tell when you’re dealing with a narcissist. One day they draw you in with their confidence and charisma, the next they gaslight you, wreck your self-confidence, and leave you wondering, What could I have done differently? As Dr. Ramani Durvasula reveals in It's Not You, the answer is: absolutely nothing. Just as a tiger can’t change its stripes, a narcissist won’t stop manipulating and invalidating you. To heal in the aftermath of their abuse and protect yourself from future harm, you first have to accept that you are not to blame.

I’ve listened to Dr Ramani on different platforms, read her books. THIS! 🙌🏾
“I am Tired of people calling those of us stuck in these cycles Codependent or Addicted to the Narcissistic Relationship. It’s Not that. If you have any empathy, have normal cognitive functioning, and have been shaped by social and cultural norms and realities it’s not surprising that you would get stuck. The Natcistic relationship is like a riptide that pulls you back in even as you try to swim away. The intensity, Attentiveness, and high & lows are why you swim out to where the riptide is. The abusive behavior makes you want to swim away from the riptide. But the guilt and fear of leaving, the practical issues raised by leaving; financial, safety, cultural, family, as well as the natural drive toward attachment, Connection and Love are what keep you stuck.”

Riveting! Shocking! Can’t put it down

Wow. Every woman, man should be required to listen to this. My children became interested listening with me. I’d advise under supervision based on age, some parts are so horrendous it pierced me and I was glad there weren’t around at the time.
The author did a superb, brilliant job, not only telling the story embodying the characters as she narrated, perfectly channeling “Mrs. Packard” (love the way she says her name).
I’d Never heard of this before. I learned of this book on Natalie Hoffmann’s Flying Free podcast and had to get it with urgency.
“Can a (white) woman be at least equal with the black male” in 1800s is like, really!? Still, as an African American whose family were able to be tortured in broad daylight, even after emancipation,..still, she captured me. She was indeed a quintessential fighter for the hurting, forgotten, disenfranchised people. Thank you author for not only telling her truth, but doing so well. Captivating! So sad all she went threw. But the way she made lemonade out of lemons... I am inspired!

Story
Should I Stay or Should I Go? is a survival manual, a guidebook, and a shot of reality. Some people will never change, and kissing frogs is the stuff of fairy tales, not real life. The Beast never turns out to be a nice guy (or gal). This is a book that breaks down what mean people do to us, how they do it, and what we can do to survive.
