Story
Humans have been pushed to the brink of extinction by an ever-evolving demonic threat. Portals are opening faster than ever, Towers are bursting into the skies, and Dungeons are being mined below the last safe havens of society. The demons are winning. Quest Academy stands defiantly against them as a place to train the next generation of Heroes. The Guild Association is holding the line but is in dire need of new blood and the powerful abilities they could bring to the battlefront. To be the saviors that humanity needs, they need to surpass the limits of those that came before them.

Great story

This book kept me excited! It had drama, jokes, and heart-touching moments. There were quite a few elements that were unique to this book, while still having some classic elements as well.
There was significantly more cussing, especially F bombs, than I would like, and a bit more sensuality than I like, but overall it was a very fun story.

Slow build—fascinating finale
Reviewed: 03-14-25
This book had a lot of really cool, classical fantasy ideas, while also adding some of its own fun spin. The first third of the book was a little bit hard for me to get through, but after that, I had a lot of fun listening to the rest of the book. My only real criticism of the book was that the male narrator had several lines that he either read incorrectly or very unnaturally. I am sure that they would’ve got caught with editing, so I’m not sure why they are still in the published version.

This book was the best of all three books. It was less cringy and there was such cool twists and powers to tie everything together. I hope the author will right many more books in a similar genre in the future.

Story
Jake is working at the neighborhood market under his apartment when the world ends. He expected nuclear war, a computer virus, or even climate change burning everyone to a crisp to bring about the downfall of civilization. But cruel and arbitrary gods from another world? Who would have guessed that? When these cruel gods shuffled Earth like a deck of cards, nothing was in the same place anymore. Monsters, dungeons, and magical items appear scattered across the globe. And suddenly, everyone has access to a new, strange magical card system that gives them magical powers.

The author makes a very creative world with new ways of growing power. The main character makes some decisions that have my facepalming, but other than that I enjoyed pretty much everything about the book.

Story
When summoned to a fantastical world and granted powers by a broken System, most freshly minted protagonists would strap on their big-boy boots and get ready for their stats to start climbing. But Fischer isn't like most MCs. In fact, he doesn't want to be a hero at all. Fame? Fortune? Power? He had enough of all that in his old life. Discovering forbidden fishing techniques and petting every cute animal that comes within scritching distance? Now that's a good time.

So funny
Reviewed: 03-31-24
I bought this audiobook on impulse and had no regrets. It was quirky, interesting, suspenseful, and hilarious.
I have only two critiques: 1. there is a lot of unnecessary swearing (not my cup of tea)—it made me sad because I do not recommend books to friends if they have a lot of cussing in them.
2. I get a little frustrated when an otherworldly culture shares all the values of the author’s culture. Another world would not have the same manners, social structures, and moral standards. Throwing in a few very different morals (I.e. cults and fishing heresy) does not change the fact that the culture seems to be nearly identical to 21st century culture.
I realize the second is nitpicky, but I absolutely loved the book. I can’t wait to read the next.
