About this listen

The exciting conclusion to the Jake's Magical Market series!

Last time we saw Jake, he was [redacted to avoid spoilers] with [redacted] in order to travel to [redacted]. He had finally learned [redacted] and [redacted]. He was just starting to [redacted]! So join him now on his new adventure as he [redacted! redacted! redacted!].

Ok, no spoilers allowed, but be prepared for a life-changing, world-spanning, time-twisting conclusion to Jake's story!

Lessons will be learned (maybe), new powers will be gained (definitely), worlds will be explored (cool), time will be tamed (is that even possible?), and adventures will be adventured (yes that's the right way to say that, don't worry about it).

Redeemed itself in the end…

I have had a lot of mixed feelings about this series. The first book was incredible, despite some of Jake’s more annoying tendencies. I was disappointed initially with the direction of the second book since it was basically resetting Jake in a whole new world with new systems and ignoring almost all that went before, but I came to like that, too.

This final book did well to tie everything up in a bow very satisfactorily and I’m ultimately happy with where the arc of Jake’s journey took him and its conclusion.

What made me want to quit the series, both in listening to the second book and definitely in this third, was the completely annoying and stupid things Jake would decide to do despite all the advice he is given, even by his copies. I like that this series explored mental health in a fantasy setting and how ignoring it can impact a person.

What I didn’t like was going through so many painful scenarios in which I was screaming out loud at the constant and pointless self-sabotaging Jake did throughout this book and the series. I gotta tell you, too much of the first 20 hrs of this book is a slog to get through. Not because of the storytelling, but because of just Jake himself. His mental health journey really just boiled down to him admitting he needed help and then just accepting it. I guess it mirrors real life that way, but I wish Jake decided to do right for himself back in the first or second book instead almost 2/3rds through the last.

It’s funny because I think the copies observations throughout the series was supposed to mirror that of the reader, which would mean the author was very aware of how Jake’s decisions might agitate us. I think the author waited a little too long before allowing Jake to, you know, follow all the good advice he knew he should have done from the beginning. If the story wasn’t so good, I would have dropped this book well before its conclusion.

My only other gripe was Jake’s weird hang ups like never getting over spiders, being annoyed to be getting dirty in a swamp for like AGES, and calling everything goofy. It’s like “Bro! You’ve crossed time, dimensions, worlds, are a god, and you STILL can’t get over little stuff like giant spiders?! Seemed needlessly immature in a way that was not endearing and only annoying.

I guess the fact that stuff like that bothered me shows how much I cared about this story and Jake’s journey in general.

In the end, I do recommend this series and was happy with how fast the end was wrapped up. Travis Baldree is one of my all time favorite narrators and I was sad to hear he could not narrate the second and third book in this series like the first. But John Pirhalla really did an amazing job and made Jake and all the other characters his own.

Also, I’d buy a giant poster or metal picture of the cover art from all 3 books. They are amazing!

What a mesmerizing take on the deck building litRPG! And I absodamnlutely loved it!

Gods this book was simply enrapturing! And I loved every mesmerizing of it! All 36 hrs and change, definitely giving me several days of listening pleasure. Jake continued his quest to grow stronger inorder to make the difference that will eventually defeat the evil gods that controlled the apocalyptic system that took over earth killing over 40% of the population. Jake spent an inordinate amount of introspection which surprisingly you'll find doesn't slow the book down at all, as it gives us a deeper understanding of Jake and the complicated system he's found himself in. And of course the rest of the book is Jake on his rampage killing all the monsters and gods in his way!
I've always loved listening John Pirhalla but in this book he's absodamnlutely out done himself and he tiered up and joined the master level voice performer. Joining Travis Baldree, Heath Miller, Andrea Parsneau, Jeff Hays plus his Soundbooth Theater Company Productions and Peter Berkrot. To name the voice actors and podcasters on my short list.
So yeah you'll need to get with the picture and grab this awesome deck building litRPG series...

Here's some quotes that amused me:

"Whatever was willing to attack a ship of this size had to be powerful, stupid, or stupidly powerful."

"The galley still was serving lunch, and despite the sailor’s complaints, I thoroughly enjoyed my manta ray filets served over a manta ray goulas."

"I really want to know whether Lady Marbleby’s cousin’s sister is really pregnant with Lord Marklebottom’s child or not, you know?”

“Magazines?” he replied, his red eyes glowing even brighter with excitement. “Do you think they’d have those quizzes that could tell me what celebrity I would match with best? Or whether I should be a blond or brunette? I’ve often felt my black hair was a bit too . . . vampirey, you know? Maybe I was always meant to be a blond. Do you think so, Jake?”

the last 10 hours

the last 10 hours of the book are the best. it's very very very slow build up. also the ending feels really rushed. how many times can the mc fall into a deep depression and distant him self from his friends? alot I guess.

I cried it was over

This has been by far my favorite series I’ve ever listened to and I listen to an extensive amount of litrpg books as well as other genres. The plot was amazingly thought out and the characters were all so relatable and made me wish I had my own group of friends like them. The transition from narrators was flawless and barely noticeable, both did so well with portraying the story. I am so sad this series is over because I could read 3 more 30 hr books about Jake and his many many adventures. Thank you J R Mathew’s for writing such an incredible, thought provoking, and progressive story.

Jake’s Friends have a Great Time!

Loved the story of Jake and his exploits. Misu is a great companion and I love his energy! Burned through this book on a cross country trip and it made the time pass so quick. Great time!!

Fabulous Conclusion

Elements of Card and Cultivation LitRPG this 3rd book concludes the legend of Jake and how he risks everything to save his world from destruction. Plenty of unpredictable twists and turns like in the first two books keep you guessing how he's going to survive everything thrown at him, but his hopeful perseverance pulls through.

This one’s a gem

Amazing characters, amazing narration, and amazing world building. This has easily become one of my top 3 most enjoyed series, if not the first. The only problem I have is that there isn’t anymore for me to enjoy. I’ll be missing jake and all of his rag tag team

A bit rushed but a great ending

Some parts felt a bit rushed and probably could have been two books instead of one. Otherwise, a great ending to the series!
