About this listen

Secrets and broken promises. Questions that need answers. Drive can overcome Destiny.

Gus is thrown back in action, still reeling from the sacrifices needed to protect the manor. He’s been thrust into a leadership position he feels ill-equipped to handle and finds himself in a race to find answers. The fraying threads of his past are unraveling, and one mistake can mean they’ll be lost forever.

He teams up with ‘"he Crew", a singular group of supers assisting Gus’ father - Tempest - as he seeks to right a wrong from the past...but it may be too late. The Crew is tasked with finding the hybrid’s secret headquarters, hacking impregnable AIs, and making deals with criminals all while in enemy territory.

Powerful forces are watching Gus and want him as a pawn in their global game of conspiracies against all supers. Against his will, he has become the tipping point everything is balanced upon.

It’s all in a day’s work for the average super, but Gus isn’t sure if he can rise to the occasion, or if the pressure will crush him.

The best super hero LitRPG continues

Gus and Aurora managed to defend the manor from Manticore. Immediately after, Gus's father arrives with a crew of super heroes. Now, Gus needs to learn to work with a team. The group goes to different locations on missions as we learn more about the group and more about the world in large.

This book introduces a group of new characters and goes into their interesting powers. Some of the new characters are enough where I would like to have a book based off of them! I was originally concerned that Gus was going to become too overpowered to be an interesting character. Fortunately the author does put limitations and consequences on him to even him out.

I highly recommend this series! Side note, each chapter title is an actual song. Take a moment to look them up.

book 📖 got boring in some spots but still good

the main character acting very foolish in a lot of spots like not leaching the doctors power and the general use of his power just made you want to say f*** this book

An amazing flushing out

Carl does an amazing job filling out the characters in this one, he shows us the characters and builds them into people with wants, desires, and motivation. We get to see Gus’s struggles with his own inner self doubt that keeps hitting close to home over and over again(at least for me, it’s like the author drew out my own self doubts and concerns and funneled them into Gus). He does it in a way that doesn’t just have someone swoop in, say three cheese lines, and resolves the issue. Love the book and can’t wait for more.

Travis brings in his amazing vocals as always and keeps showing me why he is near the top of my top 5 narrators

Very much worth continuing with this series

The unexpected fun in this book was the hacking powers. It's inclusion gave me Shadowrun flashbacks and I absolutely love it. Great character development with Gus. Lots of opportunity to see the rest of the team in action. Almost a team heist movie vibe, a la Ocean's 11 or similar. There were some great fight scenes displaying some of the different abilities other supers had. I'm super excited to see what comes next. Keep them coming!
