Story
I was a nanny in need of a job. He was darkness personified. I had little to call my own. He was filthy rich, powerful, and dangerous. The assignment was simple, and my goal was too. Take care of his son. Keep my head down. When he least expects it, destroy him. It should have been easy. I thought it would be, until I looked into his stark blue eyes. I came here to steal his life. I didn’t count on him stealing my heart.

The narrators were On Point! They delivered a suspenseful, intriguing and sexy story in a way that made me devour this one in 2 days.
The writing in this one kept me captivated. I like how Alessio would get right up to the line and then walk it back. I knew once he broke, it would be on and poppin’!
Natalia was a really resourceful and determined woman to survive all the she did and still have the capacity to love and forgive. I really admired how she always did what she thought was best for Nino.
Alessio and his low body count is an anomaly for a mafioso but I was here for it. It made for an angsty yearning as he warred within himself to resist Natalia.
Nino was the icing on the cake. He was the glue that connected all the players in this one. A sweet little boy. I love stories that revolve around family.
I can’t wait the next book.

Story
If you like raw emotion, fast-paced stories, and characters that are imperfect and real, then you are going to love this contemporary romantic drama. Aya Johansen is a young nurse working with refugees in a war zone, when she's captured by fanatical religious warriors. She's determined to break free, even if it means compromising her own values and starting a relationship with one of her kidnappers. Kato wants to do the right thing, but helping Aya could cost him his life - and he's smart enough to know that if she ever escapes he'll never see her again. That alone makes it impossible to ...

I have to say that I don’t enjoy this at all. Having Siri or Alexa read the book was awful. The weird inflections, the mispronounced words and names made this experience bad. The actual story was just okay

Story
Capo to the Luciano Famiglia was my birthright. The cruelty needed to succeed in this life has been beaten into me since I was a young boy. My father, Vincent Luciano, taught by example and with the slap of his hand. My independent streak took me down paths my father would never have gone. With our enemies gaining strength, it is my idea to attempt an alliance with an unlikely bedfellow. The Roríguez Cartel and the Luciano Famiglia are improbable partners, yet even Vincent Luciano can’t deny the possible benefits. The only way to solidify the deal is for me to marry Catalina Ruiz.

The female narrator voice didn’t do the character justice. She didn’t do a lot of inflections, she was monotoned. The male voice was very good.
I still enjoyed the story. The mafia world was predictable as was Dario and Catalina’s journey to love. I really liked that they communicated well.

Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they're real.

The Narrators slayed
Reviewed: 01-27-25
Wowza! This story was everything I wanted it to be. It had a strong heroine, it had great world building, a drool worthy hero and a repeatable supporting cast of warriors. Saeris was definitely worthy counterpart to Kingfisher. I loved the tension and angst that permeated their interactions.
The first 20% was meh as the author set up the world, then the story took off full steam ahead. The narrators really understood the assignment because they brought the characters to life.
Great writing, great dialogue and great delivery

Becoming a family
Reviewed: 01-19-25
This one was rough to get through. I have kids and they aren’t this inconsiderate and bratty. My main issue was that every character was underwhelming and lacked development. It was hard to like anyone except Alex but he was a non factor in the family dynamic as well.
The two young girls were sweet but I found it hard to get what the author wanted to convey with this story

After giving twelve years of my life to the service, I didn't just lose my leg. I lost everything, including my career. When the dust settled, the only person still standing by my side in the rubble was Brandt—the single lifeline I had left to a world I didn't want to live in anymore. With painstaking care, he healed my body and my mind. When he eventually started healing my heart, I realized I didn't just need him in my life, I needed him in ways I'd never wanted him before.

I didn’t enjoy the narrators as I normally do. I’m not sure why. Also, the copious amount of sex overshadowed the plot for me. I never quite understood Patrick’s insistent to be with Nicole because he didn’t love her and even like her. Patrick had more put downs than compliments to Nicole. Cameron was a character I liked and probably the more developed of the main characters

These are the mafia stories I enjoy. Just enough crime but not too gory, and a well developed relationship between the love interests.
Noemi was a smart girl and Connor was a delicious hero, faithful and strong. There wasn’t silly miscommunications and misdirections. Their journey to love was nicely paced. Irish and Italian and Albanians are interesting cross partners in the mafia world.

Slow and Steady Love with a side of family
Reviewed: 05-14-24
This story was just a much of a slow burn as the other books by Mariana Zapata. But you know you will get genuine love that was planted as a seed and grew over time, rooted in friendship and consistency.
Rhodes and Aurora felt so authentic and real, unlike the smoke and mirrors with Kaden.
MVP award goes to Amos who needed a guitar and brought Aurora into their lives. Family and love are my favorite things in a romance book and this one featured an unexpected kind of family with Amos and Rhodes. Very sweet and well written book that gave Aurora a new beginning. I am curious if she will revisit Kaden in a new book.

Story
Echo knew that being caught by a ruling Berserker would mean becoming his pawn, a plaything to be used for her powers. That wouldn’t be her fate. She’d rather run lost through the woods forever, dangerous though they may be. But there’s something even more sinister than beasts and Berserkers lurking in the woods. Something both undead and deadly. She can’t fight it alone. She’ll have to turn to the Berserker who’s caught the trail of her scent and won’t let it go. He says she’s his. She says never. He says forever.

3.5 star for an interesting premise
Reviewed: 02-13-24
I enjoyed the world building. It’s unlike anything I’ve read. It was slow in developing though and I wanted more of a sustained connection between Echo and Adam. It’s there on his end but not enough clear communication to build the romance. I also couldn’t decide if the narrator was Scottish, Irish or Caribbean. I did like the narrators though. I look forward to book 2 because I think that’s when the chemistry will solidify.
