Creepy read, but enjoyable. Reminded me of Twilight Zone. The well developed characters and twists and turns of the plot had me guessing to the end. I originally thought Devon was Stevie. The story reminded me of a comment from my Mom “You will have and know many people who you and they call your friends, but in reality you will be able to count those as true friends who are always there for you,and for whom passage of time doesn’t count on one hand maybe two. Whenever you meet, you pick up where you left Orr or are as if distance and years don’t matter or exist anymore.

Story
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

This is the longest Grisham I’ve read to date, and thus only four stars. The background info was good, but a bit too much even though the storyline held my interest. That being said, I had mixed emotions and, even on occasion, some laughs. I’m glad that Hugh and Keith were able to meet one last time, and that Hugh was able to admit his guilt.
I sometimes wished there were others reading some of the characters as it was too easy to tell the reader was the same even with his voice disguised.

Wow
Reviewed: 06-19-23
The only part of the book I didn’t like was on 2 occasions where the tape seemed stuck and repeated sentences.
I gave a headline of WOW because the book evoked so many emotions. I laughed, cried, dreamed, feared, and yes even felt sexual satisfaction as I read and remembered my days of lovemaking with my wonderful husband of 47 yrs this month. Though now content to cuddle in one another’s arms, we still love and tease one another and enjoy our time with our two sons and their families. Too, the story reinforced for me how much we have all learned and how much we still have to learn about PTSD and coping mechanisms and the road to healing and recovery. I look forward to reading and hearing more about the O’Brien clan.

Story
Some lines should never be crossed. Police corruption, an investigation that ends in tragedy and the mystery of a little girl’s silence – three unconnected events that will prove to be linked by one small town. While detective Cormac Reilly faces enemies at work and trouble in his personal life, garda Peter Fisher is relocated out of Galway with the threat of prosecution hanging over his head. But even that is not as terrible as having to work for his overbearing father, the local copper for the pretty seaside town of Roundstone.

I enjoyed the storytelling. The description of Ireland—Dublin, Galway, brought back happy memories of visits there and increased toe desire to go back again. The book moved along well for me as far as the storyline is concerned. However thumbs down when I couldn’t pick up exactly where I left off and had to listen to what I had already heard. Also, I was disappointed that there was a repeat of an earlier chapter or at least the start of it in Chapter 30. I fast forwarded, but had to do so twice because it was hard to determine where I wanted to be in the chapter, and/or went too far and had to back up to stay on the page and audio I wanted.

Story
Amos Decker witnesses a murder just outside FBI headquarters. A man shoots a woman execution style on a crowded sidewalk, then turns the gun on himself. Even with Decker's extraordinary powers of observation and deduction, the killing is baffling. Decker and his team can find absolutely no connection between the shooter - a family man with a successful consulting business - and his victim, a schoolteacher.

The storm was fascinating to me even though at time I felt it was too long making a deduction form data Decker recalled or deduced. Baldacchino is a favorite author. Thee is suspense til the last minute and then the finale.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and enjoyed seeing the characters grow closer together and find peace. Having been to Ireland several times, reading the descriptions reminded me of the enjoyment shared with friends and family when visiting. The descriptions of the countryside, islands, and sea are so vivid. Even if I had never been there, Ireland would be on my wish list to see and feel first hand the peace and beauty the characters feel and I think anyone visiting for the first time could experience as well with an open mind. I look forward to a return some day and to enjoying other books about Ireland both fiction and non fiction. Jan

With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century.
