Story
Clara may be the woman Adam wants, but there's one problem: She's far more interested in publishing her women's journal than getting married - especially to a man said to be dead-set on vengeance. Though with her nose for a story, Clara wonders if his desire for justice is sincere - along with his incredibly unnerving intention to be her husband. If her weak-kneed response to his kiss is any indication, falling for Adam clearly comes with a cost. But who knew courting danger could be such exhilarating fun?

I am liking the story but I hate the cliffhangers. This story should have all been told in one book! The 3 books are not even that long. I have listened to many books by this author and they are all well written but I would not have started this series if I had known it was in 3 separate parts.

That the book ended in a cliffhanger that was only part 1 of the story.

I disliked that it was 1 book for the price of three! The first audiobook was on sale and since I like this author I bought it without reading the description.

It is Part of a Trilogy ! Major Cliffhanger!
Reviewed: 05-05-24
Unfortunately, I did not comprehend the part 1 in the name of this book when I bought the audible version. I am older and it is harder for me to read a printed book so audiobooks are mostly the only books I purchase. Unfortunately for me, I only skimmed the recap of this book and now I am left hanging. I think a clear statement should be made that this story is sold separately in three books. The story is not bad, but now, if I want to know how it ends I am going to have to read the kindle unlimited versions of part 2 & 3, I enjoy sports romance books but if I finish this series I will never read anything by Alley Ciz again. At least all 3 books are available - the last time this happened to me I had to wait a month to obtain the final book!

EXCELLENT STORY!
Reviewed: 07-29-23
I love this book and it is great that is is finally available in audio. However, the narration leaves much to be desired. Why does the narrator try to impose some fake and unpleasant voice and accent for each character? Brandon and Jeff each have a feminine sounding, fake southern accent, Heather just sounds wrong with an occasional fake English accented word or phrase, and Thomas Hint sounds like a screeching old woman or witch. The narrator should just read the story and let the reader/listener “hear” the character’s voice. Dual narrators is preferable, but if it is only one, the story should just be read by a pleasant voice and let the listener hear the story as it is printed.

I have read this book many times since the 1970’s. This one, The Flame and the Flower, and Shanna are my favorites and the ones I have read most over the years, but the others are good also. Now that I’m older it is hard for me to read print copies so I’m thrilled that they have been released in audio! I have had this one pre-ordered since November of 2021, and 2 others since January of 2022. I am so happy that they are finally available and a new generation can enjoy the work of KEW!

Generally I like this author’s books, however, if this was the first book I’d read by her it would be the last. Both main characters are quite without honor and not easy to like. Had I not already read the first three sibling’s stories I would have thrown this one out before I finished the first chapter. Gervase portrays himself as a weasel at the start of the book and only gets worse as it progresses!

Story
He tasted like tequila and the fake name I gave him was Rose. Four years ago, I decided to get over one man, by getting under another. A single night and nothing more. I found my handsome stranger with a shot glass and charming but devilish smile at the end of the bar. The desire that hit his eyes the second they landed on me ignited a spark inside me, instant and hot. He was perfect and everything I didn’t know I needed.
