Story
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Surprisingly better than expected – excellent!

With all the hype, this series has gotten recently, I decided to try out a book that has gotten several reviews of ‘over-hyped’. Well, let’s just say that I know question those reviewers. I found this book to be both interesting, well written, and imaginative. Furthermore, I found the narration to be realistic and the spice to be interesting as well. Reading this book has convinced me to buy both of the next books before even finishing this book.

Who am I? I've forgotten the answer to that question long ago. Ever since I ran from that house, so desperate to escape, I left with only the clothes on my back and socks on my feet. After that day, I've only ever walked in stolen shoes.

Story
In her early twenties, Charlotte Shane quit her women’s studies graduate program to devote herself to sex work because it was a way to devote herself to men. Her lifelong curiosity about male lust, love, selfishness, and social capital dovetailed with her own insatiable desire for intimacy to sustain a long career in escorting, with unexpectedly poignant results. Shane uses her personal and professional history to examine how men and women struggle in their attempts at romantic and sexual bonding, no matter how true their intentions.

Calloused look at the business of sex for money

The author’s portrayal of her life’s work came off as shallow and self-serving to me and her description of her most dear client left me wondering why the ‘John’ kept going back to her.

Aaron Rodgers is among the two or three most talented players to ever hold the most important job in American team sports–quarterback. He also stands as the most mysterious and polarizing figure in the modern-day national pastime that is professional football. From his controversial Covid stance to his methods of spiritual awakening to his estrangement from his family to his high-profile romances to his devastating Achilles injury a mere four plays into his New York Jets career, Rodgers has long dominated the NFL’s news cycle.

Very interesting

I got the feeling that the author wanted to show ARod in a fair and balanced way but also had to proof the book with Rodgers before he completed it. Therefore, I feel this portrayal is kind to Rodgers overall. It seems that another purpose the author chose was to try to bridge the family estrangement. In the end, Rodgers is a fascinating character study either way you choose to view his legacy.

Not What I Was Expecting ‘aka never judge a book by its cover’
Reviewed: 02-20-24
The author is a highly articulate writer and did a very good job of narrating her story. It read like an autobiography most of the time which I assume was her aim. However, the title is deceptive in that it hints a a book about the swinging lifestyle from a woman who didn’t actually ‘do it all’… far from it. So, based on the title, I have to say the book underperformed even if the author’s performance was very good. I hope the title was directed by the editor or publisher. That would be understandable asa means of getting the book out there. At some point, I hope the author writes and narrates a spicy book about swinging experiences because I think it would be a dandy! She doesn’t squirm away from the sexy parts like many authors do.
