About this listen

Eleven years after the fall...

In the process of searching for Pinch, a long-lost mythic figure who has attained a talismanic status, Gibs has resorted to making a living doing contract work with his friend Alan, the young man who followed him out of the Wyoming commune.

Hired by a family as escorts on a cross-country trip to Texas, they are ambushed by a group of raiders. The family is captured, children and all, and Gibs and Alan are left behind with only some pistols, a handful of bullets between them, and no food or water to speak of.

They pursue the attackers, following the tracks left by the raiders until the trail goes cold a few days later. But evidence of further murders abounds in the region.

The owner of a waystation informs them of a mining settlement out east in the fallen town of Grand Saline, which operates on slave labor. Reasoning that their attackers were likely slavers, Gibs resolves to go to Grand Saline in search of the family.

Settling in nearby Iron Bridge, as there is no evidence of slavery within its borders, they begin to plan. But nothing in Iron Bridge makes sense. A bizarre dual-class system is at play, its people are standoffish, and the town seems at odds with itself at every turn.

Gibs and Alan are left to sound out the mysteries of this strange new place, determine what, if any, weaknesses Grand Saline has to exploit, and save the children from the slavers' salt mines.

The hit Commune series returns with book 6! Rejoin Gibs in the apocalypse as he explores the horrors of what humanity is capable of.

I almost gave up on this book several times but out of loyalty to the author and story I persisted. The story begins with graphic violence and a torrent of foul language and continues in that vein till the end.
I missed the great character development and story line of the first books.
It’s as if a deaf teddy bear and a drill instructor went on a personal rampage of vengeance where anything was justified to accomplish the end.
The love of an ill named horse for the unrepentant protagonist does nothing to redeem his character.
The story comes from nowhere and goes nowhere carried along on profanity and mayhem.
That said the author remains one of my favorites and I will hope for better in the next effort.
The narrator was as good as I’ve come to expect.

Disappointed

This one has so much of what made me love this series. I was on the edge of my seat one minute, laughing the next and even wiping tears a couple times. Keep them coming we need more.

So hard to put down

Gibbs lost some of his colorful language. The book was one of those hard to put down. I hope Gibbs finds what he is looking for in the next book.

I don't mean in this Commune series. I mean one of the best you can find on audible. Period. The story is gripping and compelling from beginning to end. The characters are masterfully done and the dialog is excellent. Honestly, the only thing I didn't like about this story is that it ended. I think that people that are leaving bad reviews because Gibbs was too emotional and showing too much character development are simply too dense to appreciate his journey and would be better served enjoying a coloring book.
R.C. Bray did an amazing job as ever.

One of best books audible has to offer.

The Commune series has been my favorite series of books since Book 2. I have listened and relistened to the series countless times and was genuinely sad when 4 was over. The residents of the bowl felt like family at that point and real genuine people thanks to the writing of Mr. Gayou. This is the resumption of the series that I had hoped 5 would be. I hope there is a 7,8,9 and on. Fantastic books, amazingly developed characters just all around great story telling. I recommend these to anyone, hands down.

Thank You!

I have read or listened to the previous books in the series and thoroughly enjoyed them; this installment was no different. Superb story and narration. Good storyline and characters. You won't regret getting this book.

The last book was not what I expected, but book 6 is back to what I liked about the first 4 books. Book 5 lost the voice of the story new characters or not. Very happy things seem to be back on track!

10 years after has me wondering what's happening in the bowl!!!

Back on Track

So glad to have this continuance. Yes, we mostly all understand about #5, somebody somewhere possibly enjoyed it. The rest of the reading world is celebrating #6 - characters we NEEDED more of. Please, Sir, can we have a Pinch more?!?!

Oh, my heart!

What a great continuation. Love the time line change.
Though I was a little disappointed when Gibbs didn’t have anything to say to Jake when Alan returns. Hope there’s an explanation to come.
But truly I loved this book.

Amazing
