Story
Cyber-security analyst Kate McCarthy knows something ominous is about to happen in the US banking system. She has a place to go if things get hectic, but it’s far from the perfect retreat. When a new breed of computer virus takes down America’s financial network, chaos and violence erupt. Access to cash disappears and credit cards become worthless. Desperate consumers are left with no means to purchase food, fuel, and basic necessities. Society melts down instantly and the threat of starvation brings out the absolute worst humanity has to offer.

A hopeful story
Reviewed: 09-28-24
Like the others from this author there is hope interlaced with tragedy. The only reason I rated the story 4/5 stars is that it’s predictable. I did like that the hero is the woman- Kate. Very good performance!

Honestly, some of Tozer’s comments are hard to swallow, but they’re biblically sound. Doesn’t mean we should shy away from listening to his perspective. As a result of this audio version, I’ve decided to get the hardcopy because some of this work is so powerful. Especially the last chapter where he lays out basically the life of a Christian. Strongly recommend this to those who need encouragement in their faith and challenge in their Spiritual growth.

Story
Right now, Truth is under attack, and much is at stake. Christians are caught in the crossfire of alternative Christian histories, emerging faulty texts, and a cultural push to eliminate absolute Truth altogether. As a result, many churches and Christians have been deceived. Worse still, they propagate the deception that poses itself as Truth!

A must read for anyone who’s serious about standing for Gods truth in today’s upside down world. As usual, MacArthur, in his own voice, provides clear, biblically based support for his position on absolute truth and our fight against apostasy in today’s church. I enjoyed this short read, and decided to buy the actual book for future reference.

George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

While 1984 is truly classic, the performance/reading by Mr Prebble gave it the air of fatalism that I suspect Orwell intended. It grabs you and holds you in a mental/intellectual and even physical grip till the end because as described the Party power position is even more possible in the west today. Loved it!

People talk about retirement like it's supposed to be an endless vacation. But what if, like the majority of those facing retirement, you can't afford such a luxury? Or, what if you just want something more from retirement? Some advocate for no retirement at all. But you've worked for decades and a rest and reprieve do sound appealing. What should you do? Does God have a purpose for your retirement? Yes, he does.

Thought provoking (maybe) and useful for those who are retired and those who plan to be. This is not about financial planning- it’s focused on choosing to live with purpose in your later years. As a recent retiree a lot of this is common sense to me - I planned until the day I decided to retire, not obsessively just intentionally. However I appreciate the Biblical perspective the author provided on each topic.

A must read for all who have concerns about the ethical implications of AI. Lennox provides a good overview of prior published works on AI and existing ethical discussions as well as provides counterpoints to a few top leading experts opinions on the benefit. He spares us technical jargon and sticks to the philosophical and practical concerns such as what could AI do to our freedoms. Well performed.
