About this listen
Ashton is a typical small town where everyone knows everyone else and the pace of life is predictable. No one would suspect that Ashton has drawn powerful demonic beings to it. Planning to gain control of the town - and eventually the world - these evil forces are looking for allies. When Pastor Young and the town's newspaper reporter begin to discover this dark plan, they turn to God for guidance, but others have already succumbed to temptation. As angelic forces rally against the demons, breathtaking visions of spiritual warfare fill each fast-paced chapter.
Richard Ferrone's dramatic narration highlights these powerful illustrations of the strength of prayer and faith. There are more than two million copies of This Present Darkness in print.

"Something is murdering my men." Thus reads the message received from a Nazi commander stationed in a small castle high in the remote Transylvanian Alps. This rape case is different from most: the victim is more than willing to testify and there's ample evidence to put the suspect behind bars. But one thing gnaws at Detective Larry Millsaps - young and beautiful Melissa Nelson knows too much about the evidence needed to convict her attacker. Millsaps's investigation unearths the suspect's brutal track record, but also some stunning revelations about Melissa's own past. Caught in a deadly conflict between the ironies of the law and the demands of his Christian convictions, the detective finds himself protecting Melissa - even as evidence mounts that could imprison not only an inhuman criminal, but also the woman Millsaps has come to love.

Story
This book is the haunting true story of pain Frank Peretti never forgot but never, until recently, shared with the world. It's the story of growing up with a medical condition that left him disfigured. A series of surgeries and the slow miracle of answered prayer took care of the deformity, but not the underdeveloped frame or the excruciating reality of being different. And it was for these petty "crimes" that Peretti was prosecuted every day at school - especially in gym class, but also in the halls, on the school grounds, even in his own neighborhood.

Christ is King!
Easily the best book I've found on the plus membership thus far. Not just the best Christian book, but the best book.
Classic good vs. evil.
I wasn't even looking for a Christian title... honestly I didn't even realize Christian themes were still platformed by any major corporations. I think this book might have just found me when I needed it most.
I only have one complaint, and it's not enough to knock a star off because the term was only used once, but the oxymoron,
"_____-Christian values" is enough to turn your gut and make you physically ill when you hear it smack in the middle of such a special and inspirational story.
If you get to that part and are tempted to turn it off, I promise you it's worth it to stay the course.

The power of prayer against things unseen.
excellent visualization of the battle that goes on for our souls and how circumstances and events that happen to us are more often than not a strategic play for our souls and the souls of those connected to us. It also was a great depiction of the power of prayer and no matter how insignificant we may seem our prayers are not and we play a significant role in the battle against good and evil.

Still incredibly relevant
Aside from the mentions of actual film and typewriters, this book could be set in 2024. I read it when it came out and found the listen perhaps even more compelling. This book contains timeless truths and reminds us now more than ever how much we need to pray.
