Story
It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

Story
The Beginning After the End: Publisher's Pack 2 contains books 3 and 4 of The Beginning After the End series, Beckoning Fates and Horizon's Edge. Though Arthur Leywin would like nothing more than to pursue his studies at the esteemed Xyrus Academy, where he hopes to push his already potent magical abilities to new plateaus and perhaps discover something more about his reincarnation into this world, he finds the politics of the school’s halls even more challenging to navigate than those of the council chambers he once inhabited as King Grey.

What was this?
Reviewed: 04-15-21
Books 1-2 really had me going for this series. But the amount of nonsense in these two books is pretty rough.
Spoilers probably:
1st time we get to see Sylvie fight in dragon form is just her spouting a fireball that gets slapped away then she's put in a cage. Disappointing.
Pretty much zero specific development of the MCs fire, water, earth, wind, lightning, or ice abilities. Slight gains on the wind side but really not much.
Last few chapters had an embarrassing amount of cool guy emphasis for the MC by using so many different perspectives. A whole chapter of the antagonist peeing their pants at how cool and scary the MC is.
Bad guys power level spiked wayyyyy too hard. Everyone on the continent combined is too weak to handle a single enemy currently. Establishing that successful mages are 7/14 on the power scale and that all the enemies are well beyond 15/14 on the power scale makes the entire thing ridiculous.
I might read 5 & 6 when they are put into a publishers pack. But christ these two were a kick in the nuts.

It turns out that surviving the depths of the labyrinth and helping stop a coup both tend to attract notice. If Hugh had his way, he'd happily go back to being just another anonymous student. He has more than enough to deal with already as he starts his second year, between his crushing load of schoolwork, training as a prospective candidate to the Librarians Errant, and navigating a long distance relationship.

Great series! This one let's down.
Reviewed: 06-15-20
After waiting a year or so for this next installment in the series, I found this to be disappointing. I was listening to it while camping and it couldn't hold my attention at all. I believe this is due to the superfluous repeated stat reads that pretty much comprise the whole book.
1. I will be re-reading this series.
2. I will be skipping this one on re-read.

It seems to me there should now be sub-genres of litrpgs. This book in particular would be classified as litrpg/drama/romance.
