About this listen

The Beginning After the End: Publisher's Pack 2 contains books 3 and 4 of The Beginning After the End series.

Beckoning Fates (book 3):

Was I taking this life for granted? Having this amount of power at my age had made me lose some of the sense of rationality I’d had in my former life. No longer a king, no longer tied down by rules and politics, I’d become careless. In this world, my potential was boundless.

Though Arthur Leywin would like nothing more than to pursue his studies at the esteemed Xyrus Academy, where he hopes to push his already potent magical abilities to new plateaus and perhaps discover something more about his reincarnation into this world, he finds the politics of the school’s halls even more challenging to navigate than those of the council chambers he once inhabited as King Grey. Arthur faces inept professors, jealous classmates, and an overeager director while fending off the affection of an old friend and the aggression of an old enemy. Then a routine class trip into a low-level dungeon turns out to be anything but, and Arthur discovers something that will change his life forever.

Horizon's Edge (book 4):

In my past life I hadn’t had anyone I would have given my life to protect. I had that now, but I didn’t have the strength to protect them - not against what was about to come.

In another life, Arthur Leywin was a king and no stranger to war. He was not ready, however, to find himself at the heart of a conflict that will reshape his entire new world. Despite his abilities, it seems as if the danger only increases with every discovery he makes. His oldest friend succumbs to a power that may destroy her, a power Arthur gave her. His most constant foe accepts a dark gift to challenge Arthur’s strength, an act that threatens all of Xyrus Academy. How can he keep his family safe if his very presence is the thing that draws danger to them? Can he dispel the specters of war before it is too late?

If you enjoyed the 1st 2 then you'll probably enjoy these as well. The books were fun and enjoyable all the way up to the last couple chapters in book 4. I agree with the reviews (not as fiercely) that book 4 was filled with a lot of cheap tricks and TurtleMe tried to hard the finally of the MC saving the day and the cliffhanger. I honestly and truly hate cliffhanger ending to a book. Which, let's be honest, was really made no sense whatsoever. More than being on the edge of my seat and getting excited about what's next I just rolled my eyes. TurtleMe gets a pass on the ending of book 4 because the previous 3 books were really good. I have no regerts pre-ordering these books and will pre-order the next in the series, but he does have to step his game back up to recover from books 4's weak sauce ending.

If you enjoyed the 1st 2 then you'll probably....

If you like the first two, you'll like these two. Book four was pretty good. Travis Baldree does an amazing job as always.

***Minor spoilers for book 3 past this point***

In book three nothing really changes. Arthur reunites with Tess and that's about it. In terms of growth Authur doesn't feel stronger but his personality matures quite a lot. But in order for that to happen plot gets pushed to the side.

Also strength/power levels seem kinda arbitrary.

Mildy disappointed

So, the good first. The overall story and plots with twists is a very engaging one. The characters evolve plausibly and the MC with his incongruous age and maturity does so as well.

The progression of our MC is almost explosive but he does have some true fortune falling into his lap from an early age which he hasn’t truly tapped into yet. It is also interesting to follow the dynamic between him and Tess

Every book so dar ends in a damn cliffhanger and I feel like it could have been avoided. I don’t like cliffhangers personally and even though I’ve bought all published audiobooks in the series and listened once already, I still find it annoying. So hence the 4 stars for story.

Travis does a better job with the younger female voices in these two books.

Well worth the credit and worth recommending.

An engaging story but always damn cliffhangers

This review is for Both 1-2 & 3-4. At first I thought this iis cool. The start brought a smile to my face. After listening to them all I wish it wouldn't end. Love all characters, dragon, spider, and new dragon who changes into a Cat and Fox. This is great for the whole family. I highly recommend these audiobooks.

Glad I Found These Audiobooks

So, it's a great series and I've been really enjoying the audiobooks, but the next one doesn't come out for a month and there is NO WAY I can stand to wait that long. I rarely read ahead in the paper version, usually content to just alternate to another series until it becomes available, but I purchased the entire available series in print and I'm moving ahead. Be warned, this series is good. Too good. It sneaks up on you being fascinating and easy going and then you can't stop. At least I've no longer got cabin fever.

omg I need the next one, like right now

This is a fun story to listen to. It incorporates elements from other stories, put together very well. Great performance by the narrator.
