Story
Lucy inherits an Oxford knitting shop...and so much more. Like the vampires who live downstairs and pop up to the shop when they run out of wool, or for their late-night knitting club. They've even offered to help Lucy learn how to knit. She discovers she's a witch and has some quirky relatives she never knew about. Her grandmother's supposed to be dead, but keeps showing up. It's enough to send Lucy screaming back to Boston, except there's a mystery to solve and Oxford and her new vampire friends are kind of growing on her....

WTF with the narrator?????
Reviewed: 06-15-23
I couldn't even finish book 8 (Aris read through book 7). I even like Hollis McCarthy when she has read other books I have heard but this was SO BAD!!! It just made the three girls sound incredibly stupid and Thistle sounded like a very brainless boy! It really makes me sad because I want to know what happens next and she reads the rest of the series. But I just can't even listen to it! I guess I will just read them instead. Quel Dommage!!!

It took a minute to warm up to everyone but by book 10 I didn't want it to end! I needed some lighthearted fun and characters I liked and this provided nicely! I loved the wrap up and how it explained everything - all those oddities throughout the series! I will listen again for sure. The best compliment!

Ever wondered what Bones was thinking and feeling, when he and half-vampire Cat Crawfield first met? Or how their story might differ if he were the one telling it? Now, relive the beginning of Cat and Bones' best-selling love story through Bones' point of view, which reveals a darker, sexier take on their early days, as well as a deeper dive into Bones' past, the vampire world, and other things that Cat didn't see, when their story was told only through her eyes in Halfway to the Grave. Cat had her say. Now, it's Bones' turn.

Okay, we all hate when the reader changes. And I nearly gave up on it! But I hung in there and by the end just that he was awesome. It's the same story but a very interesting twist on what we all (probably) read before! I really enjoyed it so if you are really bugged at first just give it a chance! I love Tavia Gilbert but this voice is certainly sexier for Bones once you get used to the change.

I LOVE her!!!! Even more now!!!
Reviewed: 11-21-18
This was a pretty easy sell because I already loved Michelle Obama before and after finding out more about her I just love her even more. As a professional woman myself I could really relate to a lot of the things she went through in her professional life and can only imagine it must have been so much harder being black. I really admire her for all of the choices she made - even leaving her career to support her husband and how she made the opportunities to help people with her First Lady position. She was always someone to look up to and it must have been hard to try to "dial it back" and not plunge forward and make the same mistake Hillary Clinton did by trying to do too much too fast. It would be incredibly difficult to live life under a microscope and I know I would have never done it with as much grace and class as Michelle Obama. I totally understand her never wanting to run for public office (I know I never would!) but it's such a shame. Imagine what a great leader we would have! I just love her "no BS personality!

Disappointed!
Reviewed: 11-09-18
I love the Night Huntress series and have listened to it many times! Loved the books about Spade and Mencheres also! Was so-so on Vlad's books and this one also. I REALLY hate when they change the voice for a character like they did for Veritas! And her personality seemed to change also...what happened to bad-ass scary Veritas from the prior books? I'm not sure even making Ian fall in love with her was such a good idea, it probably would have been a better idea to introduce a new character rather than change an established character so much. It's hard to live up to expectations when waiting for a book. I really hated the way Up From the Grave ended Cat & Bones's story too. I also think Tavia Gilbert is an excellent narrator and doubt it was her choice to all of the sudden add a rather heavy accent to Veritas, but it really didn't work for me. I actually struggled to listen to the whole thing. Oh well - can't win them all! I'm sure I will still read Jeaniene Frost's next book and will definitely listen to the Night Huntress books again. I doubt I will listen to this one again.

Disappointed!
Reviewed: 09-23-18
I was SO excited for this to come out which of course makes it impossible to live up to the expectations. But the biggest problem is the change in narrators. He didn't do a bad job, it was just SO different that it gave different personalities to the characters I have come to know and love from the first three books. I don't see myself listening to it again even though I listened to the first three books probably 5 times each! The story was okay, just seemed like a lot of backstory which is fine. There was no sense of urgency like the trilogy, but it was interesting. I just struggled with these strangers who I thought were old friends. I will hope it gets re-recorded although that probably isn't likely.
