Jeaniene Frost
In this thrilling new Night Rebel series set in New York Times best-selling author Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress world, sexy and ruthless vampire Ian finally meets his match!
The rule breaker...
Master vampire Ian is unrepentant, shameless...and every shade of wicked. He’s made one too many enemies in his two centuries of existence, including Dagon, a demon who now lays claim to his soul. Ian’s only chance to escape Dagon is to join forces with a Law Guardian, but he's never been able to abide by the rules for long.
The lawmaker...
Veritas’ normal role is police, judge, and jury to reprobates like Ian. But she has her own ax to grind with Dagon, so if she can use Ian as bait...well, all’s fair in law and war. As they scour supernatural hot spots to perfect their trap, Veritas soon realizes Ian’s carefully cultivated devil-may-care roguish image hides something much more powerful. And Ian discovers Veritas has shocking secrets of her own.
As they’re drawn to each other with a passion as intense as their peril, either love or justice will prevail. But each will have devastating consequences.

Stop reading this review, stop listening to all other books that come before this... STOP YOUR DAY JOB... and for everything possible listen to this book.
I realize this review means nothing to those that don't know me, but please believe me, this is amazing.... so much so that I refuse to listen to the last 25 minutes of this book!
WHAT!? You may say: What is she thinking?
And I have never done this...
But I don't even want to know if this book ends on a cliff hangar; I'm just stopping now. In order to enjoy these characters, story, plot... it all!

I loved this story! I've read all the other books Frost has done in this world so I'm very familiar with Ian. Mostly he's a bastard but there have been indications that he has some hidden depths and can have a great loyalty to a select few. In this story we finally get to see those depths and I liked what I saw. He's still a bit of a freak (particularly in the bedroom) but it's in a good way. :)
Veritas...well in previous books she's always been the "by the book" law guardian that has been an ally to Ian's people in the past. But she also took part in an official action by the ruling body of the vampires that Veritas had little choice in but seems unforgivable and caused a serious rift. In this book, we find that Veritas also has hidden depths and that she's been using her perfect image and position as a cover for certain things she wants to keep hidden.
Veritas has reasons for wanting a demon, Dagon, dead and has been working towards that goal for a very long time. Veritas finds out that Ian is demon-branded by Dagon and sees him as a good ally to help her trap and kill Dagon because Ian only has 2 years before Dagon gets his soul. Ian is reluctant but does agree to work with Veritas towards their common goal of killing Dagon. As they work together, they both realize that a lot of things they thought was true about each other actually wasn't and they have a lot more in common than expected. I really liked how things progressed between Veritas and Ian. I was a bit surprised (but in a good way) that Ian didn't run from what developed between them and showed he could be selfless. There's definitely some drama and danger to get through and unfortunately, Dagon isn't dead yet but I loved how things ended...mostly. There is a bit of a cliffhanger but it stops at a point that makes me excited and happy about where it's headed and only cursing the wait for the next book a little bit. :D
Loved it! :D
