Story
When Lucy Hawkins receives a job offer in San Francisco, she can't wait to spread her wings and leave her small Virginia hometown behind. The cross-country trip comes with a traveling companion: her older brother's best friend, a.k.a. the guy who took Lucy's virginity hours before breaking her heart. After spending the past four years and every last dime caring for his sick father, Reece Sullivan will do just about anything to break free of the painful memories - even if it means a two-week road trip with the one girl who ever made it past his carefully guarded exterior.

Annoying

Skipped over a lot to get to the end. The plot could have been interesting but the characters both felt the same way and would not say it till the last five minutes of book. Just a bunch of prolonged bickering.

I read this based off a recommendation. It wasn’t as good as I expected but not horrible. Very alpha domination but has a strong female lead as well.

Scandal has rocked the city of London. Colin Eversea, a handsome, reckless unapologetic rogue is sentenced to hang for murder and, inconveniently for him, the only witness to the crime disappears. Cool-headed, daring Madeleine Greenway is immune to Colin's vaunted charm. Her mission is not to rescue Colin but to kidnap him, and to be paid handsomely for it.

Loved narration & author but…
Reviewed: 01-28-23
Penny Reid does an excellent job of creating characters you love, and the narrator is the best I’ve heard. This book was split into three parts, the first was great, the second was okay, the third was all angst and cluelessness. I skipped through most of the long inner monologue just to get to the end.

Not a romance
Reviewed: 11-28-22
I thought this was a romance, I was wrong. Don’t expect any spice or warmth. I’m confused, is this a prequel? Sets up a cool world and a lot of good story lines but this, as a novel, fell flat for me. Didn’t really like the heroine and was confused about things that happened that were never tied back into the story.

Not your typical hero’s
Reviewed: 08-01-22
It’s pretty slow the first half. The heroine is selfish, the king isn’t any better. It’s not a bad story line but the characters are just not your typical hero’s. This wouldn’t be a book I recommend, I like good guy hero’s that serve the people well, that’s just me.
