Publisher's summary

When Lucy Hawkins receives a job offer in San Francisco, she can't wait to spread her wings and leave her small Virginia hometown behind. Her close-knit family supports her as best they can, by handing over the keys to a station wagon that's seen better days. The catch? The cross-country trip comes with a traveling companion: her older brother's best friend, a.k.a. the guy who took Lucy's virginity hours before breaking her heart.

After spending the past four years and every last dime caring for his sick father, Reece Sullivan will do just about anything to break free of the painful memories - even if it means a two-week road trip with the one girl who ever made it past his carefully guarded exterior. But after long days of bickering in the car turn into steamy nights in secluded motel rooms, Reece learns that, when it comes to Lucy, their story is far from over. And this time, they just might have a shot at a happy ending.

Contains mature themes.

Why???? 4/20

The story started off with a bang.... a little slow and repetitive but couldn’t wait to see what happens..... Then WTF🤯😤🤬 why....just WHY was the ending like that???? Made both characters extremely stupid I wanted to through my phone.... but I pushed through it n wish the ending was different..
The narrators were great if they didn’t imitate different genders.. any book with both male/ female narrators r the only ones I listen to

Male narrator sucked

Decent plot but male narrator's imitation of a southern accent was trash. If you can get past that you might actually enjoy the story. You may get annoyed at Lucy and Reese for stubbornly thinking they know what the other person is thinking instead of actually communicating but still a good listen aside from the male narration.

Made Me Yell At My Phone

I have never been so frustrated with a MMC as I was with Reese. Omg! Lucy has the patience of a saint because I would have been gone with the wind never to be seen again lol But they were so cute. I’m a sucker for childhood friends to lovers. Great performance by the voice actors too.

The. Accents. Are. GARBAGE!!

I can say the book was pretty okay. The story was cute and had its funny moments. BUT the HORRIBLE COUNTRY ACCENTS made me picture overalls, missing teeth, plaid shirts, pet pigs and tractors. I mean I hear the Beverly Hillbillies music in the background.

Great Potential

Pretty good lead up to a little bit of a letdown. He was horribly in the wrong and there was no repentance. She was immature and stupid.

Hotheads ahead!

Woooo their ability to argue is unrelenting! I loved the story and the backstory to their relationship! The accents were annoying but being from the south it wasn’t too horrible! Lauren Layne is proving to be one of my favorite authors! On the the next book!

Took way too long to get to the point

This took entirely too long to get the heart of the issues. Nothing really happens between them until like chapter 28 or something. SERIOUSLY!? Then the childishness throughout is extra annoying. Neither would say how they truly feel and neither would reveal what needed to be revealed to the other. Well not until literally the very end. I will say it is not the worst I have read lately but it definitely was not even close to the best. The country accents sounded forced but Rudy and Amy did keep it interesting I guess. Book 1 (Blurred Lines) has been the best so far in this series in my opinion. I will continue to read the series bc I do really enjoy Lauren Laynes books but this one was just a miss.

The narration is so so soooo bad.

I loved the story, but I had the hardest time getting through it with the horrible fake southern accents of the readers. Their southern accents that go in and out in a deep back woods hick sort of way made me cringe the entire way through the book. It was like Kernel Sanders was reading the book... I craved chicken the entire time.

Male Narrative was the worst ever.

The story was good. The male narrative was absolutely horrible. The female narrative was ok.

My Least Favorite of the Series

I gave this three stars for the performance because I didn’t really care for the male narrator. I just didn’t think that Rudy’s voice went well with the character of Reese. I won’t say that he’s an awful voice actor, because he isn’t, but it just didn’t fit with what I pictured how Reese would talk if he were a real person. It also could do with the fact that his female voice was kind of creepy. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt though because a lot of men don’t talk well as girls, which is OK with me. Ha ha.

I did enjoy the story, but not as much as the first two books in the series. I didn’t laugh like I did with the previous books. In fact, I don’t think I laughed one time listening to this book because it was sad until the end.

I also think she ever used the F word in this book. It was just too much for my liking and I don’t think that the book has to be successful because of those words.
