There are three rules Brooke Sullivan must follow as a new nurse practitioner at a men’s maximum-security prison: 1) Treat all prisoners with respect. 2) Never reveal any personal information. 3) Never EVER become too friendly with the inmates. But none of the staff at the prison knows Brooke has already broken the rules. Nobody knows about her intimate connection to Shane Nelson, one of the penitentiary’s most notorious and dangerous inmates.

Josh’s epilogue
Reviewed: 04-01-25
The most ridiculous main character ever. Extremely inane and annoying. Wasn’t particularly fond of the narrator and her “baby” voice for a grown woman. Story became predictable. I will return the book. I did like the epilogue.

Story
Sami Kierce, a young college grad backpacking in Spain with friends, wakes up one morning, covered in blood. There’s a knife in his hand. Beside him, the body of his girlfriend. Anna. Dead. He doesn’t know what happened. His screams drown out his thoughts—and then he runs. Twenty-two years later, Kierce, now a private investigator, is a new father who’s working off his debts by doing low level surveillance jobs and teaching wannabe sleuths at a night school in New York City. One evening, he recognizes a familiar face at the back of the classroom. Anna.

Wanted to love it
Reviewed: 03-31-25
The basic story was interesting and the narrator was very good. I had a difficult time getting past the annoying Sammy character. So overly dramatic and almost immature, I just couldn’t fall in love with him as I usually do with other Coben’s characters. Going back and forth about returning the book.

Enjoyed VBF’s first novel. I have been missing the delightful low country stories since the loss of DBF. My Wild Dune visits were just not the same without her tales! You’ve hit a home run, Victoria! Keep them coming. I’m looking forward to the next installment.

Reviewed: 01-17-24
This memoir gave me a totally different perspective on Barbra Streisand. I was never really a fan of her, for reasons I couldn’t explain. Her story and the insight on what makes Barbra Barbra has given me a whole new appreciation of her person, talent, intelligence, and determination. I highly recommend this book and hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
