Great Autobiography of Tom Selleck
Reviewed: 12-14-24
Don't get me wrong I thought this was a great autobiography of our beloved American actor Tom Selleck, but I was disappointed he didn't add more; the book just abruptly ended with his Magnum years without delving into his Blue Blood years as well more of his recent personal life.

Story
In Leadership BS Jeffrey Pfeffer shines a bright light on the leadership industry, showing why it's failing and how it might be remade. He sets the record straight on the oft-made prescriptions for leaders to be honest, authentic, and modest; tell the truth; build trust; and take care of others. By calling BS on so many of the stories and myths of leadership, he gives people a more scientific look at the evidence and better information to guide their careers.

Dr. Pfeffer uncovers the hypocrisy in the leadership and business world. My writing partner and I have been writing about this very subject for over twenty years (see www.profitatanyprice.com), so the book was preaching to the choir for me.

Story
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Outstanding Story that really hit home!
Reviewed: 07-29-24
JD Vance wrote an excellent story about his life in the rust-belt of rural Ohio. I really identified with it as I too grew up in a poor family in Northern Minnesota's Iron Range. I didn't have it as bad as JD growing up, but it was close and I seen and experienced very similar things. Like JD, I joined the Navy to escape my situation and that provided a stepping stone to better opportunities for me. I went on to earn a bachelors and a masters degree and married a wonderful woman who also helped save me. (We now have two children and a grandchild.) Like JD, I too am a convert to Catholicism and that has helped save me as well. So the lesson here is that with hard work, determination, faith in a higher power, hope, love, and a bit of luck you too can change your circumstances for the better regardless of your life's circumstances.
