Story
Veterinary intern Emily can't believe she wound up in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho, instead of in a Los Angeles clinic like she had always imagined. Now she has to put her plans to move to L.A. on hold for a whole year while she fulfills the obligation of her vet school scholarship. Then Wyatt, her gorgeous one-night stand from a Reno vet conference, introduces himself as her new boss. And Emily is just as drawn to his seductive looks and quiet strength as she was on that very steamy night.

This book was …. Not Good. Like it’s the same chapter on repeat. And I honestly left it playing because I was buried in folding 5 bags of laundry and figured it would take too much time to find another book. It literally feels like a preteen wrote the entire book. I’ll give it a one star for being written.

But when the mission gets botched, requiring their "relationship" to continue, it starts to feel less like an investigation-and a lot like something else.

Sigh. 3.8/5

I didn’t expect the jealousy, insecure bone from Jordan. It’s such a turn off and I hate when authors play that with females who are supposed to be strong. After Lisa’s appearance when she said “Of course he only cares about the investigation” I was baffled, the investigation to get your brother out of prison? Why aren’t you more concerned about said investigation?
The series opener showed a true strong female lead. If you’re going to play the jealous girl at the least be able to say what you want/feel. The only time Jordan was finally honest about any feelings towards him was during sex *insert exasperated eye roll* Then of course this is all while Nick is supposed to be telling her important information about her brother? I was very much disappointed.
Chapter 22 beyond was listened to at 3.5x and it was needed because it turned cliche imo. Two grown adults acting like the other can read their mind. Third act breakups are not my thing. And it’s even more annoying that they stopped keeping in contact —no one thought “an active criminal investigation is going down we can handle this immature nonsense when it’s wrapped up.”

I should’ve been turned off by the two low star reviews but I decided to listen anyway….. the Russian aspect drew me in all to find out half way in that it was a waste of time. I should’ve listened to the low star reviews.
It had some makings of what could be good but 98% of the story was ….. boring. Just enough info to let you know it could be good, but the execution was weak.
The climax was …. Boring. Just everything was boring. The author doesn’t seem to have researched abandonment. She counted everything as such even when it wasn’t and then chalked up her immaturity to that “fear” meanwhile we only got glimpses of her with the band all of 3times. Same with the relationship with Drew and her best friend, we met Drew twice and the best friend once. 0/5 I can’t truly recommend.

I liked James, that’s where it ends.
Simone’s character was… hard to relate to but that’s subjective of course. In one scene she kind of throws Sam under the bus and use him as her excuse for why she can’t explore a relationship (though I think her brother was childish and immature based on the fact that he even made her take on the role of his mother.)
I don’t like that she makes him come off as narcissistic. I strongly dislike narcissists so when James spoke with him and he still didn’t take ownership for his role in the breakup (if we can call it that) I was instantly annoyed with his character. However after he goes to have a talk with her and she gives us more excuses I realize she used Sam as a crutch (kind of like he did with her).

Not one of my favorites from this series
Reviewed: 03-16-25
I couldn’t get my credit back so I listened.
Georgia always had a reason as to why she allowed herself to be a push over. “People are watching I won’t do it here” “I’m not like my sister” “I don’t want anyone to be upset with me and I’m not in the mood right now” … girl seriously 😒
She was WAY too worried about what her parents wanted and at some point i wish the author would endorse seeking therapy.
I love that Drew became the person that gave her the encouragement she needed but it’s essentially saying she needed a man to boost her confidence in her own self worth when her sister had always pushed for her to take charge of her own life.
Lastly at the end the authors push all the blame onto her mother yet her father didn’t speak up on his child’s behalf once. In chapter one the mother AND FATHER greets her and pushes Elliot onto her and she says the FATHER “always expects her to be the epitome of the perfect society princess” so I didn’t like that by the end it turned into her mother is vindictive and evil and the dad is innocent.
All of a sudden when the mother isn’t present he’s very proud of her for not allowing people to walk over her? When Georgia’s pov tells us through out the story how he doesn’t call out the mother on what she says or does? Absolutely not!
The father isn’t innocent in anything and I hate that they villainized the mother. Not one of my favorites from the series.

Story
Harper Chase has just become the most powerful woman in the NHL after the death of her father Clifford Chase, maverick owner of the Chicago Rebels. But the team is a hot mess - underfunded, overweight, and close to tapping out of the league. Hell-bent on turning the luckless franchise around, Harper won't let anything stand in her way. Not her gender, not her sisters, and especially not a veteran player with an attitude problem and a smoldering gaze designed to melt her ice-compacted defenses.

This book had potential. I could get over the irritating accents that was apparently demanded of the narrator but Harper was exasperating.
She wants her sisters to open up and have this relationship with her but she literally doesn’t open up to anyone or give off welcoming vibes. She’s frustrated me. And when she finally “opened up to them” it was whiney and cringe. There was no character growth / development.

Kylie's best friend Braxton is the hottest man she's ever known, with a rock hard body and a smile that melts the panties off every woman he meets. Except Kylie. Mostly. Kylie is anxious to get off the dating carousel and find something real. Despite the way Braxton tends to suck the air from her lungs, she knows he's trouble. He's just another player, and she's tired of the game. But Braxton isn't the man she thinks. The real reason he's sh*t with women is simple. None of the women he's with are the one he wants. None of them are Kylie.

The narrators weren’t for me but the story wasn’t good. Their relationship with Selene was weird. She’s a big girl. Let her grow tf up. Very simple. Breaking Kylie’s heart because Selene is immature... very ridiculous. Two adults racking up a body count and entertaining pointless relationships for the better half of 15 years because your sister/friend don’t approve of your relationship? Also ridiculous. The fact that they hadn’t seen Selene in weeks and she didn’t even move to figure out what was wrong with her “best friend” tells me that Selene is selfish af. How are you worried about her and think something is wrong but haven’t went to go and check on her. 0/5! Then she goes and act like the victim I can’t stand her. I hate stories where the siblings are supposedly so close but then always has the worse opinions of said sibling. Again I say 0/5
Because I’m a glutton for punishment and needed to know how it ends I continued however, Chapter 23 onward was listened to at 3.5x

The female narrator sounds like a film from the 50s. I didn’t like that especially because the mfc is 23yrs old (aka pretty young) the story was good but the character development wasn’t there. It fell flat for me. This is my first book written by only Penelope, usually it’s Penelope and Vi.
