About this listen

This audiobook is based on user submissions received by Walter F. Kern during his stint at the Motorcycles Guide at About.com, and also during his current assignment as editor of Motorcycle Views, which he founded.

This book is an anthology of motorcycle stories. These 50 motorcycle tales were submitted to the author over a 13-year period by a wide range of motorcyclists from all walks of life. These authors tell their own personal stories of what happened to them as they rode their motorcycles.

Some tales are very short, and some are very long. You may find the stories of some authors grouped together. Each tale was intensively edited to provide a good listening experience. You'll find humor, risk-taking, adventures, poetry, rhyming verse, two-up excursions, world travelers, stupid tricks on bikes, lessons learned, winter riding perils, hazards while riding, and stories told by returning riders.

Walter wrote five of these stories. Two of his stories relate his experiences on his motorcycle trips. Two stories are fictional children's stories that involve fantasy and motorcycles. The last story is a short fictional tale that describes an alternate world of motorcycles.

Bar talk in book form

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Eh.... I couldn't imagine too many

What was most disappointing about Walter F. Kern’s story?

The voices, the way the stories were told. Poorly scripted and read. This could have been better done by a bunch of bikers sitting around a bar with a mic in the middle them all. Not tremendously entertaining. I only made it through 12 "stories" and I couldn't take it anymore.

Would you be willing to try another one of the narrators’s performances?

Probably not.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from 50 Wild Motorcycle Tales?

All of them between the beginning and end.

Any additional comments?

I really don't think this was worthy of a book. I tell stories all the time but I don't make a book out of them.

Kept me entertained

This is not my style of audio, by theme and form so I may not be the best critic but I decided to give it a chance and it was ok.

I tended to like the shorter stories vs the longer ones. I felt them all to be middle of the road and not over the top amazing but not terrible. I read a review that said it was bar room talk and that is a completely accurate description. I felt like these were stories I would overhear at a bar and be completely content eavesdropping on.

The narration was more like story telling and not a narrative. Again, more like overhearing a story than a book meant to suck you in and keep you there.

Not 50 cool stories

This book is ok, but not worth my money. Some of the stories were interesting but nothing close to wild. It is narrated by several different people a couple which I just did not like at all. Anytime their voice would start reading, I would fast forward. This book let me down.
