About this listen

Imagine a town where the people perpetually live in the 1950s, a place where time has all but stopped and where everyone loves his family, job, and life. In this strange place, only a select few people ever leave the city limits and even then, they leave reluctantly. This is what fifteen and a half year old Benjamin Granault faces as, through a string of amazing events, he finds himself living in a town where he can never talk about modern technology or current events, a place where being an outsider can cost a person his life and being part of the community may very well cost more. Follow the adventures of Benjamin Granault in 50'sVille, the strangest town Indiana has ever been unaware of.

Good Read

My second read from Dr. Paul Ibbetson. An enjoyable short read that captivated my attention. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Not to pick apart the book, but Cassius Clay was 18 when he won the gold in Rome in 1960 and the reference to him in a '50's book is erroneous. Nevertheless, I need to get the rest of the books in this serial. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

50sVille review

Wasn't disappointed with the second part of this series. Like part one, it's short, and was able to get through it quickly as a result. Interested to see what happens next.

Assimilate or die

Ben finally has a secret ally in Zane and The Purple Dragons and things are starting to make sense. The characters are strong and likeable but mysterious. The book is well written and intense. I can't wait to read the next volume. I received this audio book upon my request and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Second Volume

Wow, I'm really intrigued. Volume two begins to explain to the reader what is really going on in 50sville. It's not at all what I was thinking the series would be, but trust that's not a bad thing. I can't wait to continue this series and see what happens.

I received this audiobook from the author/publisher/narrator in exchange for an honest review via Audiobook Boom.

Haunting Thoughts

This is volume 2. Volume 1 was totally developed to scene set up. Only the last few lines of volume 1 hint at something dark. This volume has characters exploring many sinister elements, but not completely. It is almost impossible to not go on to volume 3.

50s ville series

The 50s Ville books are a lot of fun. Ibbetson has a very tongue in cheek style, that makes them dark and humorous, while not taking themselves too seriously.

Living in town

I've listen to all 5 books in the serie in sequence. They are not that long and the story is pretty much continuous so I recommend to read it/listen all 5 books too. You will not want to stop in the middle.
I will review all 5 books and give stars individual for each.
The story is about a boy that every year goes to an event in a town that is stuck in the 50's. In the first book we get to meet this town and some of it's inhabitants. But then his father dies and the plot begins. For his own protection he has to hide in the town and live there under their rules (book 2). Those first 2 books were my favorite. As well as the narrators. The story reminded me of "The Stepford Wives" but in different way. The group of kids also reminded me a lot of Steven Spielberg films.
After that the story turns into a darker tale, when we discover the mystery behind the town. I think of it like a Edgar Allan Poe tale. I love them, the dark, the mystery, the danger, the thrill, the supernatural flare. The thing is they always seem to never go too deep, being just a tale. In here we still get a lot of complexity, and cool characters, but for me it never really suppresses the expectations created on the first 2 books. Still worth reading to discover the full mystery and the final chapter.
It was a petty that there is a new narrator for every book. I would have preferred consistency, being a small length novela. All narrators are pretty good, but totally different from each other.

The Plot Thickens!

Ben finds himself living in 50 spill and going to the local high school. Everything seems perfect, but it only seems that way. When he starts getting harassed by the popular jock and his gang he gets help from an unlikely source. The purple dragons his friend tree has a brother who is the leader of the purple dragons and this is when he gets his first inkling that not everyone is happy living and 50 spell. And not everyone wants to stay.

Every book reveals a little more and I cannot wait to read book 3 this is a great series. Finally something me and my daughter can share as she started listening to these books also and she loves them. They are smart and funny and also leave you guessing. I love them
