About this listen

When the wedding of her oldest friend ends with a shocking murder, Dr Nell Ward is once again caught up in a web of subterfuge, secrets and lies...

Dr Nell Ward is delighted when her childhood friend Percy announces she's engaged to handsome businessman Hawke McAnstruther - and rashly offers to host the wedding at Finchmere, her family's estate. But she hadn't anticipated Percy's parents' fiery disapproval of the groom.

The ceremony is barely over before Hawke's shady personal and professional life starts to unravel, and tension ripples through the assembled guests. When the wedding night ends with a shocking death, Nell, best-friend Rav and DI James Clarke all find themselves embroiled in a murder mystery worthy of Agatha Christie.

Surviving a terrifying threat to her own life, Nell has to face up to the truth. Not just about murder at Finchmere, but about where her heart truly lies...

Hate the romance triangle

The murder mystery is good. The love triangle is annoying. More Conner less every other ancillary character. Percy is a caricature… ugh. so is Rav for that part…

Fun, easy read

Perfect weekend listen, as well as educational! I've learned about bats 🦇, and now owls 🦉

Love the ecological angle

Love the ecology info at the end, too. Aristocrat angle is not that necessary to me.

So inaccurate

I truly enjoyed the first book. They used their actual knowledge base to help solve a murder. This book lost everything good about the first. It was all about messy relationships that were unrealistically bad. It also was so incorrect in its description of medical care that it makes me concerned that there was never any fact checking done.
I normally finish a series once I start. I don’t think I can for this one.
The narrator is amazing and the only reason I finished the book.

Delete repeated expletive.

Enjoyed the character and story line development. I would vote for a third book in this series. The book could work very well without the repeated expletive (JESUS!!).

Like the mystery, hate the love story

I like the mystery and drama aspect. I know it’s a story, but it’s annoying that the main characters are worried about flirting and relationships when all the horror is going on around them…

Enjoyable but

I do like the series and the characters but lord the angst in the James/Rav saga is a bit too much. They are all adults & should act like adults. Fortunately I liked the story & the characters overall enough to listen all the way through. The narrator does a great job which helped.

Wildlife theme

I was so delighted to discover the first book in this series because of the ecology theme. I am not a fan of the overdone dialog and exaggerated character development, but still like the novelty of the ecological theme.

Needs editing

A bit too much soap opera for me. Hoping author will steer content back to the series’ premise. A few less tedious exchanges between characters would be nice too.

Not as well plotted as the first book

Too much Rav vs James and too little murder mystery. The writing of the book seemed rushed.
