In a world where magic has disappeared, rival nations vie for power in a continent devastated by war.

When a young farm girl named Livia demonstrates magical powers for the first time in a century, there are many across the land that will kill to obtain her power. The Demon takes sometime

It was an enjoyable book and many characters were developed to a point where I cared about them. A few characters were not and time spent with one I’m not invested in can be tedious. This is a completely developed world with customs, culture, history and Parthenon so it will take sometime for you to understand the history. This is an interest beginning I am going to see what comes next.

Great Performance but author has bad pacing

The reading was great. Unfortunately the author wastes a lot of time building up characters just to have them die pointlessly. There is this long slow build-up just to have a very anti climactic ending. i understand it is book 1 but each book in a series needs to feel like its own book not just a couple of chapters of a major tale. Unfortunately this one seems to be the latter.

Unexpectedly, I love it and am on to part two.

I am a very picky reader. I rarely read anything that isn't star wars related, lord of the rings related, or written by Brandon Sanderson. I had the audible premium plus trial and decided that I would give a book I knew nothing about a try. it wasn't what I was used to but I love it either way and look forward to the second book, which I am already very much enjoying. I will probably get the third book too, even though it isn't included in the membership. We will see.

Loved it

Listened to it in a couple days up at work. Started off a little confusing but as it progressed I found myself envisioning in my head what seemed to be a fairly excellent Netflix series. Overall it kept me highly entertained as it was funny serious and emotional. It truly captivated me.

45 chapters.

This is a good story. In fact it’s great. You will have to wade through 45 chapters of confusing story before it starts to make any sense at all. It was a free book with my membership or I would not have bought it. If I had paid money for it I would have returned it after 30 chapters of nonsense. Now that I’ve made it through this book I will buy the next one. It really is an entertaining story once all the background information is read. This first book is almost entirely backstory. If you are in the market for a new series I can tell you it’s well written and performed. I guess we’ll see how the next book goes but if you have the patience and time I’d recommend this book.

godfall

it's written like the witcher series with the story bouncing between different people and different points in their lives. The story overall is interesting starting point. but I think that the quality of this book will be determined by how well the next book continues the story.

hard to follow

the time jumping makes it hard to follow the story till nearly the last chapter. otherwise it was a good listen. the narrator is great and obviously talented. the story overall is interesting even with the erratic time jumps.
