About this listen

When my magic manifested at puberty, my parents sold me to the Illuminati. The Order of the Illuminati trained me as an assassin, spy, and thief. But when they sent me to steal a magical artifact that reveals Truth in all things, I discovered that I was working for the Dark and not the Light. The Illuminati trained me well, and paid the ultimate price for their deception.

Thousands of miles away, I landed a job in a quirky little bar. But the scattered remnants of the Order still strive for world domination, and no one leaves the Illuminati alive.

Contains mature themes.

I loved this book!

I absolutely loved this book... starts off interesting on page 1 and continued all the way through. The protagonist is someome with a troubled past but has a heart of gold. In other words, she's flawed but lovable (as a protagonist should be!). The camaraderie with her friends is heartwarming. Pacing was great... action was entertaining... The plot was fun... this just is everything I'm looking for in a book. So glad I stumbed upon it. Can't wait to read the next in the series!

Pretty good

Straight forward reading with a decent story line. Not focused on how sexy the main character is, which is a full on relief.

Great book

An overall great book. The story is slow at first, but picks up very quick.

Good.

The start was a bit… meh. The character wasn’t exactly what I thought someone trained as she assumedly was but an interesting juxtaposition if a bit extreme and naïve. Anyway, it seems like a good book series to blow though if you don’t take it too seriously. I still really enjoyed it though.

Surprisingly refreshing

I actually got this recommendation from a group I follow and the author is a member. I’m picky about my urban fantasy and really enjoyed this book. The characters are good and I like the development of the story. I’m going for book two. There is a little repetitiveness in the fight scenes but they played out well overall. I like a solid female lead that isn’t to caught up in a relationship in the first book of a series. That may change but is played out very well here as well. I would recommend this book.

Illuminati

I like all books that are sci-fi or fantasy. Anything that gets me away from the reality of this world. The characters are very colorful and interesting. This book will be liked by teens up to seniors. I like the twist in the turns. But just as you think you might know who is the true bad guy Bam they send something else your way. Can’t wait to go to the next book in the series.

Good story once it gets moving

This book had a very odd, clunky beginning with the weird description of the Illuminati years. The story really doesn't begin, get moving or interesting until after that preamble is done. The main story is great as are most of the characters. The end is also a touch clunky, but not nearly as bad as the beginning.

The biggest problem of the book is the narrator. She really doesn't know how to handle the humor in the book and is too dry in many places. She also doesn't know how to add rhythm changes to accentuate mood or action. Hopefully she gets better or they get a different person for the next one.
