About this listen

Brooke is no stranger to the supernatural. In Chicago, vampires are just as prevalent as drug lords and infinitely more bloodthirsty. So when her partner and fiancé dies in a mysterious fire while chasing down a lead in Salem, she suspects something dark and otherworldly is at play. Blessed with the ability to see into the past by touching inanimate objects, Brooke transfers to the Salem PD, hoping her talent will help her get to the bottom of things. Between dodging assassination attempts and being stonewalled at every turn, the going is tough. Add in a mysterious fae club owner with secrets of his own and a personal grudge against her, and it becomes nearly impossible. If Brooke wants to play in the supernatural sandbox, she's going to have to roll up her sleeves and get dirty. But how many people will have to die for Brooke to discover the truth about her fiancé? And is she even ready to know?

Okay

I like the plot but I wish the main character was more smarter and clever.

Book 1

Decent start to a new series involving the supernatural world. Brooke, a Chicago homicide detective, temporarily joins the Salem , Massachusetts PD to try to discover what has happened to her fiancé. Several unexpected twists and turns occur leading Brooke to a truth that just maybe to hard to bear. Old family truths and a possible romantic past come to light as well. Though there was plenty of action the story missed the mark that would encourage me to continue on with the series. Brooke at times seemed a bit dense and too whinny for a female heroine. I probably wouldn't read the next book in the series if I hadn't already purchased the next book.

AWESOME.

I am so ... glad I found this author. This new series is fantastic. Lots of action and the dialogue is good. I like the protagonist, Brooke Chandler. Kept in the dark about her heritage, she has been muddling around trying to find out the truth. She is strong and brave, I also find the lord face, Lord Maddock Tremaine a very interesting character. Most enjoyable. Angela Dawe is a great narrator/performer. She brought the characters to life and male voices were perfect. Please don't change the narrator.

If mountains wore suits

Don’t miss this $3.99 sale book for Halloween. If you are a fan of narrator Angela Dawe this one’s right up her alley. Excellent interpretation of author’s book. There is none better narrator for a Scottish accent than Ms Dawe’s. The Murdock Fae is just what makes this book as good as it gets without gratuitous sex. He is the Epitome of sexy. This was a Good old fashioned who dunitt cop adventure with a paranormal twist. I will seek out more from this author if ms Dawe narrates. Don’t miss Nora Roberts the MacGregor series read by Ms Dawe, it makes your heart smile. I almost passed up this sale book and glad other reviews were good. A reviewer who was offended by the language and wrote such a scathing review, would have been better off in the cozy mysteries genre .

Too many hormones

Nice world building, liked the interactions between humans, witches, fey, vamps, etc... but all the yearnings between the characters got in the way of the story.

Fun series intro - updated takes on characters

Really fun read. Get the audiobook! The narrator does an excellent job with different accents and character portrayals. We see some ‘familiar’ character types in this story, but they have some fresh takes and nuances that are engaging. I look forward to the next installment. (Note to authors: keep this narrator she’s great!)

Fascinating!

witches, urban-fantasy, fae, murder-investigation, law-enforcement, magic

Lots of action and suspense, magical beings and their activities, plot twists and intriguing characters. I am not sure what I expected, but this was a pretty good thrill ride. I only became acquainted with the fae and the Seeley courts several years ago, so I am often surprised at how lore from one author is reflected by another. Regardless, I liked the story and Brook very much and will look for more.
I love listening to Angela Dawe when she gives an audio performance.
