About this listen

In this romantic fantasy of manners from New York Times bestselling author Allison Saft, a magical dressmaker commissioned for a royal wedding finds herself embroiled in scandal when a gossip columnist draws attention to her undeniable chemistry with the groom.

Niamh Ó Conchobhair has never let herself long for more. The magic in her blood that lets her stitch emotions and memories into fabric is the same magic that will eventually kill her. Determined to spend the little time she has left guaranteeing a better life for her family, Niamh jumps at the chance to design the wardrobe for a royal wedding in the neighboring kingdom of Avaland.

But Avaland is far from the fairytale that she imagined. While young nobles attend candlelit balls and elegant garden parties, unrest brews amid the working class. The groom himself, Kit Carmine, is prickly, abrasive, and begrudgingly being dragged to the altar as a political pawn. But when Niamh and Kit grow closer, an unlikely friendship blossoms into something more—until an anonymous gossip columnist starts buzzing about their chemistry, promising to leave them alone only if Niamh helps to uncover the royal family’s secrets. The rot at the heart of Avaland runs deep, but exposing it could risk a future she never let herself dream of, and a love she never thought possible.

Transporting listeners to a Regency England-inspired fantasy world, A Fragile Enchantment is a sweeping romance threaded with intrigue, unforgettable characters, and a love story for the ages.

Regency Inspired Fantasy Romance

A Fragile Enchantment is a regency inspired fantasy romance. Niamh is a dressmaker who stitches enchantments and her emotions into her garments. She has been tasked to make a wedding gown and Prince Kit’s coat for the wedding. However, Kit and Niamh fall in love. There is court intrigue, a class system, good LGBTQ representation, and Niamh has a chronic illness that is not overtly stated by the author. While the story is gorgeous, the romance is fine. The magic system isn’t explained. Overall, I really enjoyed it.

For romantics

Entrancing story and exceptional performance. The character is a self described “hopeless romantic” and the book will give readers of a similar nature many engaging moments.

Bridgerton-esque

3.5 stars! Bridgerton with a magical twist. Charming story with perfect narration. The narrator perfectly captures the different accents throughout the story to give it more depth and character. Some parts got a little slow in my opinion, but overall a super cute story.

My Review:

Allison can't do no wrong in my eyes when it comes to her novels and characters.

Loved the Bridgeton vibes and mystery to figuring out who was behind the gossip line.

I really loved Niamh's character development towards the end and I definitely took in the life lessons it gave.

(I have now read all of Allison Saft books, just patiently waiting for her new release "A Dark & Drowning Tide"

Such a cute magical story!

This has such a great magic system and the royal family is just like any other, but obviously with power and influence. I love how there is a magical dressmaker. It’s just so cute.

Whimsical Fantasy

I enjoyed the storyline and found the character development enchanting. I highly recommend for the adults with the YA community but sadly as a school librarian I couldn't approve it for our school library. There is a wonderfully written love scene that prevents me from approving this book.

Cute

Endearing characters if a tad cliche. Story was interesting with mild fantasy elements, wish the magic aspect was explored a bit more. It was overall, cute.

This might be the most beautiful book I've ever read/listened to.

The narration, the descriptions of everything, the softness of the world building that still made such strong impacts throughout the story. I did not know what to expect, but from the first moment I heard the narrator, I was captivated, and then even more so by the beautiful words. I am truly in awe of how much I enjoyed this story, and how quickly I finished it, and this was me being mercifully slow to savor every word (3 days I finished it in). I want everyone I know to read this story, and then some, wow wow wow. I love their connections and chemistry, and terrible dynamics that didn't change even when they were being "romantic". I loved this story, 10/5 but I suppose I can only go up to a 5, so 5/5😂
