About this listen

Two rival writers.
One prestigious publishing contract.
A bargain of hearts and desire.

They say never bargain with the fae. They also say don’t get drunk on fae wine. Yet romance author Edwina Danforth has managed a blunder with both on her first visit to the infamous faelands. Now she's trapped in a magic-fueled bet she barely remembers with a man she’d be happier to forget. The terms? Whoever can bed the most lovers during their month-long dueling book tour wins a coveted publishing contract.

The win should be easy for Edwina. She’s known for penning scintillating tales of whirlwind romance. There’s just one problem: her imagination vastly exceeds her bedroom experience. But when failure means plummeting her career back into obscurity, losing isn’t an option.

Her handsome fae rival, William Haywood, poses an even greater challenge. Not only are his looks as aggravatingly perfect as his track record behind closed doors, but he has his own reasons for playing to win, and he won’t go down without a fight. Unless, of course, it’s a different kind of going down. In that case, he’s fair game.

Edwina and William clash in a rivalry of romance. But what happens when their objects of desire… turn out to be each other?

A Rivalry of Hearts is a spicy standalone adult fantasy romcom in the Fae Flings and Corset Strings series. Every book in the series can be enjoyed on its own in any order and ends with a HEA. If you like academic rivals, enemies to lovers, and quirky heroines, then you’ll love this sizzling tale.

The Fae Flings and Corset Strings series is set in the same world as The Fair Isle Trilogy and Entangled with Fae. Journey back to this beloved fae world—or fall in love for the first time.

It’s overall a cute story with great audio performances.
Rivals to lovers- two writers compete with each other to gain a contract with a publisher. There’s a little bit of banter and a lot of sexual curiosity.
Cute story, plot is a little on the slower side. 2.5 on spiciness

Fae with a hint of Bridgerton

I will pretty much read anything this woman writes! This was so much fun!!! I’m honestly blown away by how much I enjoyed this book and characters

One of my new favorite authors

The main female character was immature, self-centered, and unlikeable. I really dislike books that seem to normalize childish and insecure behavior/beliefs in women.

Unlikeable "heroine"

If you want rivals to lovers in a fun cozy world, this is for you!

I love romantasy action, but this is such a nice breath of fresh air, and the concept is different.

Also, the spice isn’t immediate, which I love. It’s great to see some tension build.

I inhaled this book!

It’s so fun

✨ Bookish Summary:
This was exactly the cozy, whimsical fae romcom escape I needed! The vibes were charming, and I’m a sucker for enemies-to-lovers. Things got a little muddled around the 75% mark and dragged just a bit, but overall it was an adorable read!

📖 Tropes:
💞 Enemies to Lovers
💞 One Bed Trope
💞 Gaslamp Fantasy
💞 Forced Proximity
💞 Magical Bet / Deal with the Fae

🏰 Worldbuilding:
Whimsical, magical, and cozy! It’s like Bridgerton meets a magical romcom.

📝 Final Thoughts: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’m 100% continuing with the series.

🎧 Narration Style: Dual POV
⭐️ Audio Score: 4 stars
🔁 Re-listen Worthy: For sure! Light, easy, and fun.

💛 Cozy Gaslamp Fantasy

The one thing that bothered me the most with this book was the narration. In the other Faerwyve books none of the actors attempted a fake British accent, which was fine. However, both of the actors in this book attempt an accent that wavers between British and Australian with an American undercurrent. It would've been more enjoyable if they stayed with their real accents.

shifting accents abound

I was looking for a cozy fantasy romance and this book did not disappoint. The plot and pacing were great. The banter between the characters was funny. There was still plenty happening so even though it was pretty cozy, it was never boring. The narration was great too! I listened to the next book in this series immediately upon finishing this one and it was just as good. I think this may shape up to be one of my favorite authors.

Everything I wanted in a book right now
