Publisher's summary

A beastly fae king with a deadly curse.

A devious bargain to break it...

All Gemma Bellefleur wants is to leave her past behind and forget the day scandal broke her heart. But when she’s captured by a trickster fae king who threatens to hold her for ransom, she’ll find herself at the top of the gossip column yet again.

Unless...

Plagued by a curse that will soon claim his life, the human-hating King Elliot will do anything to save himself. And if Gemma can use that to her advantage, she might be able to bargain her way to freedom. All she has to do is help him break his curse.

There’s just one hitch - to do so, they’ll have to trick someone into falling in love with the beastly, brooding Elliot.

With a devious alliance made, their scheme begins, bringing Gemma and Elliot into very close quarters. Soon, an unexpected desire stirs where once there was only hate. But Gemma must fight it. For when the curse is broken, Elliot will return to his true form - a wolf - and be lost to her for good.

Can Gemma sacrifice her budding feelings to save the king’s life? Or will love force her to give up something even greater...her heart?

ACOTAR meets Bridgerton in this stand-alone fairy-tale retelling of Beauty and the Beast. If you like slow-burn romance, wolf shifters, and brooding fae royals, then you’ll love this swoon-worthy story in the Entangled with Fae series.

Note: This book is upper YA/NA featuring mature situations and some adult language. The romance is slow burn but leads to moderate steam.

Curse of the Wolf King is a complete stand-alone novel set in the same world as The Fair Isle Trilogy. Journey back to Faerwyvae or begin your adventure for the first time with this enchanting tale. Each book in the Entangled with Fae series can be listened to on its own and in any order. Happily ever after guaranteed!

A great start to this whole series!

Without this book I would have never gotten into this authors other books and series, and for that I love this book! it’s also such a unique spin off the original beauty and the beast. Other retellings I’ve read all have awful crude language and unoriginal tropes but Tessonia is able to weave such a unique new story everytime, also the narrator was pleasant to listen too and this series keeps the same narrator for the next 4 books.

Interesting story told through anxiety ridden inter-dialogue

Story has interesting concept, but really wish it could have been told in another way other than through the FMC point of view. Being a female, I get it, but the story is 80% her inter dialogue. It gets tiring.
The performance of reader was unhelpful by adding to the annoyance by reading 75% of the lines in the sarcastic tone, that was grating!
Overall, worth my time, but would be better to read instead of listening to.

I continued to listen despite some flaws

I’m not sure which is worse – the writing or the narration. But, combined they are a bit of a shit show. ‎The author is definitely having a love affair with her thesaurus using unnecessarily ‎‎pretentious words in every sentence. And, the narrator’s pronunciation of words is just ‎painful. She enunciates EVERY. SINGLE. LETTER. OF. EVERY. WORD. It’s a shame the ‎writing and narration is so bad because the story is pretty good. Note to the writer: This is a ‎YA novel, not Shakespeare. ‎

Tale as old as time

Decent story, seemed a little bit drawn out. Overall I liked it but not sure I would have been happy if I would have paid full price for this.

An awesome story

Another great story. Gamma is living in Vernon and she is unhappy. As she tries to hide from her past scandal she throws herself into reading & trying to find a job. When she finally gets her interview she has no idea how her life is about to change. Gemma & Elliot devise a scheme to get Imogen to break Elliott's curse. But as Imogen falls for him it eats at Gemma. I enjoyed all the characters from the past books being included and the new ones as well. I adore Foxglove. It had me hooked from the first chapter. I am a big fan of Tessonja's & every book I read by her just gets better and better.

Not your typical fairy-retelling

So much better than I thought since I hate the original fairy tale. I love grumpy characters. This has an independent, intelligent, rebellious protagonist.

A sweet retelling w/ decent plot twists & romance

This was cute, and was a nice beauty and the beast retelling. It is mostly YA but does have one explicit scene in it. The romance is sweet but the development of feelings seemed to come on so fast that even the characters seemed shook. It didn't feel super genuine because of this and I wished there had been more build up but it was still cute, minus the final paragraph of the book which was so cheesy I actually found myself grimacing. I liked the twists from the original story and the changes to the curse the author made.

Story ⭐⭐⭐
Spice 🌶️
Audio 🎧🎧 (voice acting was mediocre, and felt lackluster or off in some scenes.)
