A family slain. A house steeped in darkness. A horror that never sleeps . . .

Siblings Michael and Ellery Lisbon are desperate for a fresh start. Reeling after a series of misfortunes, the pair settle down in the quiet town of Plum Hollow in the hopes of kick-starting their stalled lives. The house they move into is unbelievably affordable—a seeming gem in a ferociously competitive market.

But it was in this house that, two years prior, a family was savagely butchered. Despised by their neighbors, the siblings are left to grapple with the grisly reality of the house's past—and with the possibility that the evil behind the slayings is still present.

Jagged shadows leer at their bedsides, watching them sleep. Laughter erupts from unoccupied rooms, and Ellery is plagued by visions of the infamous killings. Gradually, they're being drawn into a nightmare—destined to become the prey of an insatiable horror.

Some say the devil lives in Plum Hollow. And they may well be right.

This one's a bit more vicious than any of the others I've read of Ibsen's, so if you're sensitive to littles being involved in horror I advise you not to read. Wonderful descriptions of the creepy things though! Hard to stomach some of it in those intense moments.

Always a fan of Ibsen!

The story is great, the narration is well performed, but hearing the characters calling each other "bro" and "sis" constantly just takes me out of the story. No siblings actually talk like that and it sounds so forced.

I love your books, Ibsen, the stories are so well written and the books always give me a chill.

Good story but can we cut out the "bro" and "sis" thing?

I was really looking forward to reading this book as this author has a lot of positive reviews. But this book was just average for me. No real creepiness and flat characters. The performance also didn’t help either. I’ll give another book from Ibsen a chance.

Basic story

Love anything by this author, definitely an auto buy for me. This book gets me back to good old fashioned haunting. Really appreciate the creepiness.

loved!

One of his best books! This new book was just what I wanted. Atmospheric and creepy as I had hoped for.

I love anything by this author.

Fantastic book, terrifying as always. Why do I always listen to these at night?! Now I can't sleep and I keep watching the ceiling...

Terrifying and stomach churning

I was excited about this book, but it really disappointed. I honestly don’t know if it was the storyline or just the narration that made it blah. The narrator was reading what was supposed to be terrifying moments like he was reading the Sunday paper.
It was all just ehh. Might try another book by the author if there’s a different narrator.

Ehh. Basic story. Bad narrator.

I love a good haunted house story. This was just weak all around. Like many modern horror stories, it's like the author had a few really good scary/gory scenes in mind and then just slapped together a flimsy story to showcase them. Really good narration could have improved upon the experience, but it didn't have that either, sadly.

scary set pieces cobbled together with a weak plot

The story was promising and the set up was good. I did not like the characters at all and honestly was not invested in them or their outcomes.

Not the best Ambrose by far
