Publisher's summary

Something has always lived in Winthrop House.

After his book becomes a best seller, novelist Jack Ripley moves into a house on the edge of Cutler Harbor with his wife and two daughters. Nearly a century old, Winthrop House is newly-restored and boasts a gorgeous oceanfront view.

But everything is not what it seems.

Though picturesque, Jack learns that the house has been shunned for decades by the locals, owing to a number of mysterious disappearances and inexplicable deaths on the grounds.

The Ripleys begin to grapple with the property's vile reputation, learning more about its sordid history and experiencing strange things within its walls. What was once a dream home quickly becomes a nightmare for the family as they encounter the terrifying presence that has existed there since times immemorial.

A House By The Sea is a full-length novel of supernatural horror and suspense by Ambrose Ibsen.

Ambrose! awesome as always!

this is my 3rd book by this written. ( my favorite was Raw Power)

This one is good as well! I got a little pissy at first, because every time I went to listen to this, I would get interrupted, and have to start the chapters all over again. I must of heard the 3rd chapter 3 times! I finally put my head phones on, and went into my room. I ended up staying up half the night till it was finished :)

Its a nice little ghost story, about moving into a cursed house. Its a beautiful house right on the water. its their dream house, Well that doesn't last long and soon the terror starts.

This does move fast. one of things i like about his books. though I didn't think this was one of his best works, I felt the story could went deeper into the troubles they had, it is worth the listen if you like her work.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

like The Shining minus most of the good stuff

A struggling writer named Jack moves his family into in a giant historical place for a once in a lifetime writing opportunity. Weird shit happens. He drinks too much, doesn't write, ignores the escalating tension and strange inexplicable occurances. The children are affected. Jack is a giant ass, except that the reader doesnt care why bc there's been so little effort put into character development. The dialogue is stilted. "Here's a family, they move into this house. Voila, haunted house story! Suspend your disbelief and try to care what happens to the Ripley Family!"
It is like Stephen King fan-fiction. So disappointing. Especially since it had mostly good reviews. I guess we just have low standards for paranormal fiction.

AlienatIng Evil

Egyptian’esk, creature going around, hovering over water, spying, poltergeist’ing and all around being a pain to a family trying to have the American dream. If the fact that weird crap has happened in the house doesn’t keep you from buying the house, the fact that it’s built over a massive void would be numero uno for me.Demon creature didn’t waste no time messing with the family who lives in the house to get what he wanted.Narration was great.

James Foster narration of this book is excellent.

I revceived this audible from the author, narrator or publisher in exchange for a honest unbiased review

Yikes!! Great Haunted House Tale

Holy crap! It's been a while since I've read a good book. The story is well thought out, flows smoothly, the characters are well fleshed out. The performance is excellent. I was so scared I didn't want to listen anymore but I couldn't stop!! Let the nightmares begin . . .

I am so ready to listen to Book 2 . . . 🙄

Super spooky

The creature/demon thing in this book is very creepy. At first I thought the storytelling was average but it got better, I liked how it told the story through every family member's perspective. I had planned on starting this book and only listen for an hour or two... I ended up staying up until 4am and finished it, I was hooked! It's a little more creepy as time goes on, I randomly picture the creature from the story. It's a must read for horror fans who like to be "haunted" by a spooky story.

Enjoyable

Decent enough story, though the main protagonist Jack is kind of a douche. My only real criticism is that the author tends to let his characters ramble, even in just casual conversation. People don't talk that long uninterrupted lol.
